Cinderella's Castle Model

Hiya!

Calling all photographers with high powered lenses! My (magic) kingdom for a photo!

If any of you are familiar with Trader Sam's Disney Experience website, you may know who I am since that's where I post pics of my own paper models! My name is Becky, and as you may know I've been working on a very large paper model of Cinderella's Castle for quite some time. I've also designed models of the monorail, Casey Jr.'s Fantasyland Station and many others. But I've run into a bit of a canundrum working on Cindy's pad!

Here's the question: On the left side of the castle, looking at it from the front, there is a round tower very similar to the two that flank the entrance. At the top are two smaller sub-towers attached to the cone roof. Between those there is a pointed roof section clearly visible from the ground. What's on the back side? It's not visible in any ground based photo I've seen taken from the right side of the castle.

I suspect it might be possible to see the mysterious "wall" from the roof of the contemporary, but I can't exactly get there right now to find out. If anyone is planning to visit WDW, or if there's anyone out there who knows what's up there, I'd sure appreciate the help!

With luck the castle, monorail and my other DL and WDW related paper models will be available on the web for all to download, print and build by the end of the year. The photos I've found on this site and many others have been invaluable already!

i have a picture of the back of the castle looking up at the top. Dont know if this helps.

Thanks! That's a very good pic of the back side, it will DEFINATELY come in handy! Most of the pics I have of the rear windows are not as detailed as I would like. Nobody photographs the right side very much either. (Go figure.)

More info:

If you look at an aerial photo, you can clearly see a triangular roof with a "notched" face pointing toward the interior of the castle. (I have some, but I can't post them here yet.) I'm guessing that it has a door for roof access and may feature the kind of gingerbread scrollwork found elsewhere on the castle. But I don't really know for sure. I do know that some areas of the structure were never really as finished as others since they don't generally face the public, but it would be nice to know for sure! Maybe I need an insider like a maintenance person to climb the ramparts and photograph the secret areas for me! giggle

Hi Becky, I did find 4 photos from the side that you want. I don't have small resolution photos, so I don't know how to get them to You. If I find a way to shrink them down to post here, I am not sure that You can make out enough detail for You model. They are from a distance, but high quality, and You may be abe to use them that way or just zoom in on them. If I make them smaller, it may lose some quality. I am not sure. Anyone has any idea, please let Me know. I would like to help Becky out here.

Hiya!

That's totally cool! You can always count on Disney fans for helping hands! (hey... that rhimes, giggle)

Well, the simplest ways I can think of for getting the pics out there are to either drop them into the Cinderella's Castle photo gallery here, or by direct email if that would be better. I'll have to look at my profile info and the "rules and regs" of the forum to see how best to get my email addy to you without posting it publicly if you want to go that route.

As far as the details go, ANYTHING would be better than the nothing I've got! A lot of the castle's architectural details were streamlined for mass production / easy modification throughout the structure. Like I say, I assume it's pretty similar to the triangular section right above the clock as far as the details go. And I've decifered some pretty complicated details out of simple shapes in the past, so even if it's a blurry postage stamp it would help a lot!

The sad thing is I know how relatively easy it would be to photograph areas like that if only a trip on the skyway was still possible. I've scoured my own video footage taken on the skyway in 88, but unfortunately it's not there. (Plus that was a pretty cheap video camera I used back then so it wouldn't have been real clear if I had managed to catch it.)

Incidentally, my first trip to WDW was in April of 79. Remember the giant patch of nothing along the entrance road that eventually became Epcot? Remember when Disney World meant "Magic Kingdom" and little else? I miss the old areas like the Village at Lake Buena Vista with it's tree houses.
