Country Bear Jamboree Question

I'm pretty good at solving the little mysteries but this one really has me stumped.

Does anyone know the official story behind Baby Oscar? Oscar appears with The Five Bear Rugs, but plays no instrument. In fact, he never says a word. For the life of me I can't figure out what detail he adds to the show. First time I saw the Jamboree I waited for some kind of payoff, but he just sits there kinda sad. I feel like I'm missing something.

Also, there's an odd horn sound right between "Bear Band Serenade" and "Fractured Folk Song". 2 quick toots. It sounds again after they play "Pretty Little Devilish Mary". (I think Oscar even gets a spotlight during the toots.) And then again after Ernest plays "If Ya Can't Bite, Don't Growl". What is that?

He squeezes his bear and it goes toot toot, I remember that, as a kid I kept staring at that little guy!

I have always wondered what the point of Baby Oscar was. There has got to be a reason or story for him.

If you ever had the LP that was produced in the 70s with the soundtrack to the show, it had stories for each bear in the show. It told you where they came from how they got into show biz and a whole back log. Since this was supposed to be a country show, and family oriented, the idea was that Zeke had brought his kid with him.

EDIT: I'll see if I can scan in a copy of the page about the 5 bear rugs.

I always thought that too, but I thought that maybe he was modeled after someone.

It's interesting reading the responses. I didn't expect this much uncertainty or people who were equally curious. I emailed Lou, and I hope this Thread catches his attention. I think the Country Bears are due for a thorough DSI.
