    Why not Cinderella's Castle?

I'm not trying to be ornery or argumentative, I'm sure there's a real answer to this question.

Why is it always Cinderella Castle and not Cinderella's Castle? I know that die-hard Disney people will correct someone if they use the - 's - at the end of Cinderella?

Why is that incorrect? Isn't it her castle? Same with Sleeping Beauty in DL.

Just curious, like I said, I'm not trying to rustle up trouble.

Forgive my geekiness, but this makes me think of a scene in Star Trek: The Next Generation. There was a character who was talking to Commander Data and pronouncing his name with a short "A" — as in "dad." When Data corrected her (it should be pronounced "day-ta," in case anyone isn't aware), she asked, "What difference does it make?" His reply was simple: "One is my name. The other is not." I think that applies here. Those in charge named the castle, and the name they gave it is "Cinderella Castle." Cinderella's castle is a description, not a name. The same could apply to those who want to know why they should bother with calling The Magic Kingdom by its proper name, rather than just calling it "Disney World," as so many do. The answer, in all these cases, is that one is correct, and the other is not.

Of course, it doesn't help that Disney sells some merchandise that uses the incorrect name. Oh well. I always say that Disney may not be perfect, but it doesn't mean they aren't the best.

Ooops! I never noticed the difference. I like the explaination - right or wrong - it sounds logical.

Good points. And should I be concerned I can visualize that scene from ST:TNG in my head?

Another thing though to consider, did the Castle belong to Cinderella? It belonged to Prince Charming's family, so in reality calling it Cinderella's Castle would indicate it was hers...when in reality it's not. Unless of course you buy into the philosophy of "what is his is mine and what's mine is mine" some women espouse after the wedding. Of course, that doesn't explain Sleeping Beauty Castle...

    I like Experiment_626's explanation.

I'm grinning sheepishly as I read this thread 'cause I think I'm guilty of calling the castle "Cinderella's" Castle. Ah, well. I'll add that to my list of "things to learn to call by their right name" (of which "Disney-MGM Studios" to "Disney's Hollywood Studios" is at the top of).

I had to giggle when Carrie Shoen, the manager of the Dream Team that Lou interviewed this past week, called it Cinderella's Castle. I feel much, much better.

Maybe because it's not her castle but just named after her.
