Okay, so just wondering... Where did Disney come up with the names Chip & Dale? We all know that Mickey came from Lillian on a train ride, but where did he get Chip & Dale?

"Chip and Dale" is a play on "names" based on Thomas Chippendale's last name. Thomas Chippendale was a famous furniture maker especially known for his skills as a woodworker. Today, "Chippendale" has become an actual furniture style all it's own.
Not sure why Disney chose " Chip and Dale" for character name, just being silly perhaps. I believe it was a suggestion from one of his animators.

While I was not aware of eyeinthesky's story (which is totally cute and probably very true), I will say that I was always taught the way to tell them apart was Chip looked like he had a chocolate chip for a nose.
Sometimes all you need is a reminder that out there lies a better place... a better world... a Walt Disney World.
