When did the Grand Floridian Resort & Spa open?

I'd really appreciate some help on this one.

I've found varying answers as follows:

The Walt Disney World Trivia Book Volume 2, page 211 says July 1988

Wikipedia and The MousePlanet Park Guide say June 28, 1988

    AllEars.net says August 1988

Perhaps there is some logic to the different dates.

I've also found varying references to the road that the resort is located on as either Grand Floridian Way or Floridian Way. Do you know which one is correct?

LOL I was just flipping through the new Walt Disney World Trivia 2009 Calendar (by some Louis A. Mongello guy) and it says June 28, 1988. My guess is that the vol. 2 answer was simplified since it was only open for 3 days in June.

The maps I have from the Valet Parking desks call it Floridian Way.

The June date is the actual opening date. I think that the other dates are referring to "official" openings. I could be wrong, but this is the best info that I have.

Thank you very much to both of you for helping me with this.

I think I need to get that calendar.

I believe this is like Toy Story in the Studios. The official opening or soft opening?

We were staying at the former Port Orleans resort and Dixie Landings had guests. Mid trip Dixie Landings had their Grand Opening. Over the years we have also seen streets and roads change names when attractions open or go through name changes. Some authors miss that for a while when they are updating their books or just don't get the new info by press time.

I was at the Poly when this place opened. If anyone can remember the Kokomo Video from the Beach Boys song titled the same, it was shot on the beach just outside the Grand Floridian. We were watching the shooting from the beach at the Poly.

I did a little more research and I'm even more confused now.

On page 198 of The Walt Disney World Trivia Book it says..."Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa opened in August 1988 as WDW's fifth resort hotel."

On page 203 of The Walt Disney World Trivia Book it says..."WDW's flagship property, Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, opened on June 28, 1988, as the "Grand Floridian Beach Resort."

On page 211 of The Walt Disney World Trivia Book: Volume Two..."The deluxe Grand Floridian opened in July 1988 as the "Grand Floridian Beach Resort," WDW's fifth resort hotel..."

So it appears that Lou is aware of all of these dates. I'm guessing that there must be an explanation and that this isn't just an error.

So what happened on each of these dates? What's the mystery?

And if Lou asks the trivia question, "When did the Grand Floridian open?"

    A June 28, 1988
    B July 1988
    C August 1988
    D All of the above

I'll know that the correct answer is D.

The answer to the question is very, very simple:

Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa (current name) opened... In 1988.

(3 years of law school, baby... finally paying off)

Yes, this is one of these things where even the information Disney publishes can contradict itself. It is one of these things where it may have been "completed" on June 28, opened for Guests in July, and had it's official dedication/grand opening in August.
