...the big glass sculpture that used to be in front of Spaceship Earth? Now there is just an empty fountain there...

We miss seeing it and now the space where it was is just an empty thing.

I go to Epcot every year and I never even noticed it! Where exactly was it located and for how long?

I think you are talking about the three spires that rose up, and had the Epcot flower-like logo at the top? I think it was located behind Spaceship Earth, and unfortunately I don't know when it was removed but it was quite a while ago.

I remember that thing. I'll bet it was made of plexiglass and the plastic didn't age well being in the Florida sun.

Doconeil is right in the description of the sculpture. Unfortunately I cannot post a link or even a picture because I am new to the forum and have to have at least 10 posts before I can do that. It was located in front of Spaceship Earth (as you are entering the park). I always thought it was made of glass but perhaps it was only plexiglass. The last time we saw it, it looked as pretty as ever.
We've been going to WDW every year since 1998 and we haven't seen it in the past 4 or 5 visits. In fact, the year that we noticed it missing was one time when we went for Christmas. They had a christmas tree in it's place so we thought it was just a temporary thing for the holidays. But sadly, it never came back.

If it had the old EPCOT Center logo on it, maybe they removed it after Disney stopped using the logo. That's just a guess and unfortunately, i never got to see it!
