No. You were fine to stay on the Monorail. The only Monorail that has a must exit rule is the one in Disneyland.
I took my 80 year old parents for their first (and possibly only) visit to WDW. We were at epcot and they saw the monorail go by and asked about riding it. I asked around and was told that I could get on at the epcot station, and then ride it to the ttc. When we arrived DO NOT GET OFF, but just stay put and it would take us back THROUGH the loop in epcot, and then back to the station where we started. So I did that, and when we got to the TTC... everyone got off (except us) and some people waiting to get on, stepped in and saw us sitting there, and turned around and made a rude comment about "Rude people who don't get off!..."
Were we SUPPOSED to get off there? I didn't know, but just did as I was told, and we stayed on for the return trip. I would have hated to have to force my 80 year old parents to have to go back down the ramp and walk to the other side, and climb the ramp, and wait for the next train.
Is there a rule on this? Did we do something wrong?

Thanks everyone, I didn't think we had done anything wrong. My parents didn't even hear what was said, so I didn't say anything to them, and they just happily rode back to epcot!
Don't let the comments from a few morons ruin your day. You were in the right.
You were right and my wife did the same thing with our kids once,
You were right. They were just ignoramus's. What you did was one of the simple pleasures of WDW. And it didn't cost a thing.

You did the right thing. People do that all of the time . . . go on the monorail to ride the loop. It's a great way to see Disney and it's relaxing. I hope your parents had a great time.

see and those people were also the same ones who probably dont listen to directions... and do whatever they want... and then do nothing but complain when they dont get what they want...

i wouldnt ever let another vacationer tell me what to do... unless i had a cast member say something to me... no one should ever tell you that you cannot ride the monorail all the way through...
