    Lightbulb Non-Disney Disney Ceremony?

Ok my friends... here's one for ya... I am sure someone out there has done this or at least tried and failed and has that knowledge to share with me but, here's the deal...

For Valentine's Day, I am proposing to my husband (yes my husband). SHHHHH! If he says yes (oh my gosh what if he doesn't??), I'd love to renew our vows at Disney BUT I do not want to pay for a Disney ceremony.

I'm talking tiny... just us and our children. I'm talking no money. I'm talking options like, is there anything that says I can't have someone officiate a ceremony (vow renewal doesn't have to be clergy or legal) on property? Like, what if I paid someone to lead us through it while we stand in front of the castle or some such? Or not even paid... what if I had our step-son do it? Is there anything that says you can't? Not like there is a no loitering policy right? LOL!

Well, Jenn. I have no idea. But I would see no reason that you couldn't stand in front of the castle and renew your vows. You would have plenty of guests; most of whom you wouldn't know. I would think as long as you weren't creating a logjam/bottleneck situation nothing would be said.
Interesting question. I say go for it!

Just a hunch, but there's probably some rule that says you can't. Disney is mighty hungry for the $$$$. Still, I say go for it. Keep it quick and low profile. What can they really do?

Can't remember where I read it, but I think Disney frowns upon it. I could be all wrong and I'm not even sure you'd be stopped if they saw you anyway.

Not sure about in the park, but one of my best friends did just this at the Polynesian. Her fiance had proposed there and they wanted to get married on the beach. This was about 5 years ago, and I don't know all the details because we hadn't met yet, but from what I understand she called and reserved an out of the way area of the beach. It was pretty inexpensive ($250-ish, maybe). After they asked some questions on the phone she finally gave in and told them what she was doing and they offered up some chairs and a boat to bring them as close to the beach as possible. Her father-in-law built a wooden ramp to connect from the boat to the shore and that was how she entered. Maybe you'd be able to do something like this at one of the hotels. Good luck!

Actually, I think there is a policy against "impromptu" weddings at the base of the castle, mostly to keep traffic flowing. There might be another spot at a resort where you could renew vows.

I once saw at the Boardwalk a wedding on the lawn between the two sides of the boardwalk. Only like 20-25 people and one cameraman. Not sure if it was actually a Disney wedding or not...but I'm sure if renewing vows is all you're looking for that would be a good idea. As far as the castle...I'm on board with everyone else, Disney will find a way to get in on it and make you pay. On that note...good luck!

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I don't see Disney as trying to jump in and stop this. I'm talking me, my husband, my 4 year old, my 18 year old step-son and his girlfriend. To anyone else it'd just look like a family standing there. So, not really concerned from that perspective. If they truly got in the way of that, I'd have a very different perspective on Disney.
