    Gas Prices and attendance?

Does anyone have any idea of how the huge spike in gas prices over the last few weeks will affect attendance at the parks? Historically, when gas prices have jumped significantly, has WDW attendance dropped? I seem to remember hearing that after Katrina when we had the increases, attendance dropped dramatically.

    Re: Gas Prices and attendance?

Over the decades I've seen it happen. If people have to pay more for air transportation or gas they might stay at a cheaper hotel or stay less days. If they have a vacation budget something has to give if travel takes a bigger bite.

It will be interesting to see if Disney sticks to phasing out the discounts.
My humble opinion is attendance is up because many can afford just because there is the discount of kids stay and play, dining, or heavily discounted rooms. Take those choices away and add in higher transportation costs, Disney could be looking at a decline in attendance.
    Time will tell.
    Some people are like Slinkies.

They aren't really good for anything,
but they still bring a smile to my face when I push them down a flight of stairs.

Agreed. When I booked our flights for our June trip, I really had to think about it because we're paying about $100 more than we did last year. I guess that's probably not too bad considering what some of the airlines are charging, but it's still more than I would like to pay.

I don't think you will see a drop in the short term because most vacations were planned and budgeted before the recent spike in gas prices. If the "bubble" lasts all summer and fall without popping, then you will probably see a slight drop next year... depending on how Disney balances the total cost with discounts and offers.
