    Red face Driving Shortcut?

    My Dearest Disney Peeps,

My wife and I drove from Atlanta to WDW for the first time and having a car was to drive ourselves around was the greatest thing ever. The only problem we had was driving to the Magic Kingdom. We parked at the Transportation Center and took the Monorail in without any problems. Leaving was a calamity. We stayed for the Electrical Parade and fireworks, but it took about an hour and a half from standing in line for the monorail until we finally got to our car.

Does anyone know of anything we can do to avoid stressful pushing and shoving in lines to get back to the parking lot?

    Keep Dreaming,

    Cap'n Tom

If anyone does I'd like to hear it, too. We usually leave early to avoid the mess.

    Thumbs up Re: Driving Shortcut?

The ferry would certainly be a good alternative, but what about walking over to the Contemporary (about 10 minutes), and waiting there for the crowds to thin out. Maybe do some shopping or have a late dinner at The Wave. You can then get back on the Monorail and the next stop is the TTC.

    Re: Driving Shortcut?

You could take the resort monorail to TTC that seems to always have a shorter line then the express. Or I agree with walking to Contemporary then you can hop on the monorail and TTC is the first stop.

We take our own cars each time we go. I'll tell you one of our favorite little tips/tricks to avoid the end of night insanity of the MK. Make an ADR at the Contemporary for that day. Then you can drive to the Contemporary, park there and walk to/from the Magic Kingdom.

I also second what the PP said about the ferry.

One other option is the resort monorail. Yes, it is crazy too, but not near as crazy as the direct monrail back to the T&TC. Plus, as you ride more and more people get off.

You could also wait it out in the park for the Kiss Goodnight and leave after a good chunk of the people are gone.

Note that they can get pretty strict on the parking at CR because of its proximity to MK. If they are, you will be told you have 3 hours, and they have on occasion towed there.

If you don't want to be among the throngs exiting after the parade, or Wishes - don't be one of them Hang out for an extra hour or so.

Also note: You can take EITHER monorail back. If the line for the Resort Monorail seems shorter, take it - there is only the CR stop on the way to TTC. Might not be a huge time difference anyways if the beams are busy.

Unfortunately, parking at other parks won't help, as the park-to-park buses for MK stop at the TTC, but at the resort bus stop near the entrance. You'd have to double-hop buses via a resort.

Hrm! Must be a recent change because we've done this on 3 occasions before. Dinner at Chef Mickey's then a walk to the park!

Technically, it is a long standing policy - why allow you convenient parking for free when they can get your $14?

    Enforcement, however, has been "flexible".

    Re: Driving Shortcut?

uhm the ferry line is just as long as the monorail. The monorail line actually moves faster than it looks. The monorails come about every three miniues during closing and the line moves fast as the pack people on SRO. The Ferry on the otherhand, i waited as long as 50 mins once to get on the ferry after wishes during busy times...id do the monorail before the ferry ..and another secret to getting out of the park fast after wishes,,,view wishes as close to the exit as possible, then leave asap when the fireworks are over and u will be on the first monorail...

Just a warning, doing that runs the risk of being towed (as you only get 3 hours with a dining reservation).
