Ok this might be a dumb question but I feel like I need to ask. I know that Disney offers a switch off in line for families with small children that can't ride, but I have a slightly different question.
I'm going to the World in May with my girlfriend. This is my first time back since I was very young, but she's been many times. There are some rides she won't do. She pretty much hates thrill rides or anything with a drop (Splash Mtn, Space Mtn, Everest, etc.), but I love these. I want to ride them but I don't want to stand in line by myself and she doesn't want to wait for me by herself. Can she just wait in line with me and not ride, just like the other adult would do in the baby swap? I know the lines get long for a lot of these attractions so we don't want to be separated for an hour while I'm just waiting in line.

There is a chicken type exit for almost every ride. Some rides like Splash you can just step right through the ride and exit. Raising two kids "Disney" we used many of them through the years.
Some people are like Slinkies.
They aren't really good for anything,
but they still bring a smile to my face when I push them down a flight of stairs.

Agreed...most she can exit before loading. If there is ever a question about it, ask the CM.
In addition, Test Track, Expedition Everest and RNRC offer single rider lines that can be faster than the Fastpass line, although not always, and they are not always in use. This can minimize the time she would need to wait for you outside, and get you on the ride faster.
Note that if you wish to use the Fastpass line and she wishes to go with your through the line, she will need a Fastpass as well, even if she doesn't ride in the end.

Careful! On some attractions right now that is no longer accurate information. WDW is testing out a new system for baby swap that does indeed require you to exit and re-enter in the Fast Pass line. Time will tell if this will be limited to just the E ticket attractions. Right now the test is being conducted during low guest attendance times. This has the potential to be a pain in the butt in high seasons, waiting for an attraction twice even with a FP on E Ticket attractions.

Or it could just go away like the FP for the Parade seems to have disappeared.

I'll reply in the other thread about the trial, but here is a stock answer I use about Baby Swap/Child Swap/Rider Switch/etc. as there is inevitably some confusion on the matter. This is independent of trial changes, etc.
Just to avoid any confusion, there are TWO different things that some people refer to as "child swap", "baby swap", etc.
First, there is a formal system in place at most all Fastpass attractions that have a height requirement, called Rider Switch. Follow the link for complete details (and exceptions), but this is what most people will respond with for answers.
Second, at all other attractions, or at the Rider Switch attractions where a child simply chooses not to ride, there MAY be a way to accommodate the situation. However it is different at each attraction because of the different ways loading and unloading are handled which are often in different locations. Ask the greeting CM for what the possibilities are.
No one needed to wait at the exit on the Rider Switch Pass attractions, except for some bizarre reason on occasion at Mission: SPACE which no CM has been able to explain to me. They usually do the standard Rider Switch though. In fact, you can go off and do something completely different while you wait, and use the Rider Switch pass later that day.
On non-Rider Switch attractions, it can work in all sorts of ways because of the differences in the rides.
Now, I do know that at least for a while last year they were experimenting with allowing the family through the Space Mountain line, but then diverting the adult/child waiting to the lounge area for the swap. I've heard very little about it, and since my youngest has since "graduated" from the Rider Switch club, we weren't able to test it ourselves.

Doc... I saw that at Space this past summer though im not clear on what they did if the waiting parent wanted to ride... I haven't hit that point in my life yet so I will have to pay attention next trip as I will eventually need it...

On Space, I used to hang out in the exit and my DS woudl play in the playground while my DW and 2 DDs rode. When they exited, my DDs and I got back in the FP line with our rider swap pass. The girls liked it because they got to ride twice.
Right...with the Rider Switch pass, you could do that, or go do something else with the young one and come back later, etc. Since the Rider Switch pass is good for up to three guests (so the one who waited doesn't need to ride alone), older kids often benefit greatly. My oldest was sad when the youngest was tall enough...
For some reason on occasion, they MAKE you wait right by the exit, and give you the Rider Switch pass AFTER the first group comes out. And THEN you had to go all the way around and get in the FP line. I don't know if that has happened recently though, it was a few years ago.

Just prepare her for the 'chicken exit" walk of shame. I did the chicken exit on space mountain and had to pass all of the people in line just staring as I went by, BUT,, while I was waiting for my family, I had a cheese filled pretzel, a churo, a coke and an a frozen banana! So there!!!!!!
