Huge hotel between MCO & Disney

OK, this has had me curious for a while.

Does anyone know what that HUGE hotel/building you can see in the distance as you drive from Orlando airport to WDW is? It's west of the highway, looks sort of castle-like, and is kind of reddish in color? Biggest thing out there.

    Just wondering. Thanks!

Yes, that would be the massive Gaylord Palms Resort and Convention Center, owned by the same company that has the Gaylord Opryland in Nashville.

It actually could be several depending on the route you take from MCO. Gaylord Palms is a 'short fat' hotel near Disney Property. Marriott has several 'tall skinny' resorts along I4 and 417.

Yes, you're right. It could be one of several. I was going by the "castle-like" and "reddish in color" descriptions.

This would be seen from southbound 417, not long after leaving the airport. It's way off (miles away) in the distance, no where near WDW actually (north and west), and it is the biggest thing by far anywhere around. I don't remember there being anything else standing out around it.

The Ritz-Carlton Orlando Grande Lakes is in that same area, too. Is that the other one you were thinking about?

The Marriot looks about right - it's hard to tell how far away it would look from 417, but the shape is right. Thanks!

I agree with ParkHopper - you're talking about the Gaylord. It's absolutely huge.

The Peabody is seen from the highway also. They have ducks just like the one in Nashville. Every evening the ducks parade from the fountain up to their penthouse. Kind of fun to watch. If you are really easily entertained such as myself, that is.

Though the Gylord is huge, it is not as tall as many others and can't been see from a distance like the airport.

Probably the new Marriott off John Young Parkway. It is by itself (except for a shorter Ritz-Carlton right next to it) and looms up above everything. Don't know if it can be seen from 417 though.

"It's not a Disney Resort even though it's on Disney property!"
