Question for anyone from the UK
Planning a trip in 2013 with the whole family. My Sister-in-law needs a new mobile now and wondered about getting one that works in the USA as we will need to contact each other whilst we are there. However, it seems a bit expensive as she will not use it abroad at any other time.
Has anyone on here had any experience of buying a cheap phone out there? We wondered about selling it on eBay when we got home?
Thoughts?

I am not from the UK, but I have friends from Austria who usually buy an inexpensive cell to use while in the US.

Thanks. How much does a basic phone cost?

you can get one for about US$15 plus airtime (most stores sell the cards)
Re: Question for anyone from the UK
Probably pick up a tracphone at wal-mart or any drug store for around that price.
Re: Question for anyone from the UK
Thanks again. Some people on Facebook have suggested using walkie talkies instead. Would these be better?
Re: Question for anyone from the UK
Walkie talkies are limited in range... you have to be in the same park for them to be effective. They are not good for communication from say. DHS to an Epcot Resort. We used the little two-way radios for years because we were always in the same park, but found the text feature on cell phones to be a much better way to communicate. You can keep them on silent and not bother those around you.

Good point, thanks. I think cell phones will be the best option for us. Unless a new way of communication is developed in the next two years!
