6 years old isn't too young.
yes, you can buy a "starter's lanyard"
it can consume a large amount of time and $$.... IF you let it
best bet is to trade only with cast members
Since I got no replies on the Pin Trading forum;
Hi Everyone.,
Getting ready to head down in about 50 days or so..... my 6 year old daughter has expressed interest in the whole pin trading thing., can anyone give me a yay or nay for her (is she too young) will it consume too much time? .... also what does it entail - I'm assuming you buy a lanyard and some pins., how much $ are we talking etc..., whats the process of trading etc...
any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

We travel with a group of all ages, and all the kids love it. It's something great to do while waiting, but the kids also tend to stop at every cast member they see with a lanyard, which can take a lot of time. Usually, Disney has some kind of starter set (5-7 pins & a lanyard) on special after you spend a certain amount. All the booths also sell packs of 5 pins for $26; these come in a variety of types, but they're all mystery pins. They'd make great traders if you didn't get ones you wanted to keep.
A lot of people buy cheap pins on eBay to trade. This does save money, but it's led to lots of fakes in the park. I would say to stay away from this practice and instead be legit. But I'm telling you so you can be on the lookout for fakes in your trading. It may not matter since your kiddo is young, but we are always alert to pins win errors in the paint, rough edges, or flat color since these are often tell-tell signs that they may be fakes.
Pin trading is fun, and I'm sure your daughter will love it! Good luck! :-)
