A lot of the time it has to do with the lighting and flash from your camera and it disturbs the ride experience for other park guests....
Can anybody explain why amateur photographers like myself, using handheld camcorders, are forbidden from doing videotaping in most of the indoor attractions at Disney World? I realize that all the rides are copyright but do they think that people would make copies and sell them? Watching a video of a ride is nothing like the real experience, so they needn't worry about people staying home to watch videos of the rides. Universal Studios is no better in this regard and also bans photography. I see no harm in making a movie as a memory of attractions. "Space Mountain", "Tower of Terror", " Haunted Mansion", "Splash Mountain", and "Mission:Space", etc how could these be enjoyed on video? They should ease-up on their restrictions.
Case in point for no flash photography...we were on the HM and these morons(i am being nice cause its a family site) in the doom buggy in front of us decided to take pictures of their buddies who happened to be in the one behind us just as we went thru Madame Leota's room. TOTALLY ruined the effect and we couldnt see a thing except numerous flashes. Right in our(including my 2 1/2 year olds) eyes I might add. I yelled at them and reported them when we got off. Not that it did much good but I felt better for it.
Video cameras without the blinding lights usually have those little red lights on them which is also a distraction at times. Black electrical tape would cover it.
Sometimes even trying to take photos or taping on rides would be a safety hazard--most ppl dont have the natural balance to hold on and photograph. I would love to have some nice shots of the insides but try to write down my thots of the ride to remember them.
OH and there are the idiots that try to make money on everything.
Those little red lights are casting infrared rays so that the camera can see in the dark so to speak. They will only produce black-and-white images though.Originally Posted by vixen101485
P.S. Some camcorders still also use a red "record" light if that is what you are referring to.

On the contrary, you can videotape in/on most rides/attractions unless the CM announces you can't. However, you should never use flash or a camcorder light as it is distracting and ruins the effects.Originally Posted by Myron
P.S. The DVDs that are being sold on this site of WDW for $49 are a grrreat buy.

DYK, that your digital camera's LCD display will pick up the infrared sensors in the dark rides/attractions?

Just don't use a light or flash and you should be fine, I was at Voyage of the Little Mermaid and some guy on the front row was using his disposible camera and had teh flash on, a CM came over and asked him to stop twice, and then someone threw something at him, it started to annoy the rest of us, and then after his 3rd warning he was escorted out.

Camcorders don't use flash or in any way bother any guests so that's not the problem; it must be a worry over copyright laws. While I had no problem taping "Jungle Cruise", they wouldn't let me tape "Carousel of Progress", "American Adventure"(Epcot),or "Hall of Presidents"(MK). Universal wouldn't let guests tape "Jaws", "ET Adventure","T2", and "Kongfrontation"(now closed).
Well, I'm not really sure about HoP, CoP, and AA in Disney, but I agree with you on the copyright situation of the four you named from Universal...those are quite understandable!

lol...my thing with the red light on the camcorders is that they kinda pull me in like a deer caught in headlights therefore distracting me from watching the show. LOL
Maybe I should send my camera to JC to fix..lol
Please don't send me your camera to fix. I only use them; not fix them.Originally Posted by vixen101485

I fried the mother board. My power adapter went bad and decided to take it out on my camera. Mind you right after I had just spent 100 bucks to get it fixed for a similar problem. Thus voiding the repair warranty because I didnt use the brand adapter. Oh well, It will have to wait till tax time. I will make due with the old fashioned kind till then. OH and the $20 digital we got as a gift(some gift..lol) Yes it was 20 bucks...but hey at least it does take a pic of sorts. LOL
