    New questions from a reader

Here are a few questions sent to me by a reader that I thought you would all enjoy: (I didn't write 'em, I just post 'em)

    1. Name which ride which is presently there featured live nuclear fusion as its "hero" demonstration?
    2. Who was repsonsible for selling of the Horizons monorail system, and what happened to it eventually?

    3. How many tracks was Space Mountain supposed to have, originally?

    4. At Disneyland and DCA, there is the same ride built by father and son, the father building the one at Disneyland, and the son building it at DCA. Name the ride, and the family responsible.

    5. Where at Disneyland could you find a marijuana farm at one time?

    6. Name the former Disney X rated movie division, as in porno. (yes, it really existed)

    7. Arrow is always attributed as designing and building the Dumbo ride at Disneyland. This is actually incorrect. Name the actualy company which built it, and name the never built ride proposed for Disneyland at the time.

It is scary to me that so many of these actually make a kind of sense to me....

Actually the carousel of Progresss originally played at the New York worlds fair of 1964-1965, it was part of General Elactrics "Progressland" Pavillion one of the other shows disney produced for that pavillion was a nuclear fusion demonstration (the catch is that to make it work more energy went into the reaction than came out)

The track for Horizons was a sort of "suspended monorail" type system. I don't know the facts of how it was sold but remember a rumor that it was sold to a farmer (if true I would figure the track perhaps was compatible with some sytem he already used)

Even this is a sort of question that I can see where it is coming from the Magic Kingdoms space Mountain is much larger than Disneylands, A show building the size of WDWs at Disneyland would have dominated the skyline of the rest of the park, as such Disneylands Space mountain has only room for one track, they kept the ride capacity up by changing the seating to a "two wide" configuration, of course WDW's space mountain has two tracks, it was originally planned as "Space Port" with the rockets even going outside the building up around the spires. I don't know how many tracks were in that plan (or if that version of the plan even ever got to that level of detail)

Ok heres one I don't know how to make heads or tails of.
I wonder if he meant the same ride at Disney World (rather than disneyland) and DCA (Tower of Terror?). It's also possible though that the root of this question goes out on some other tangent, like insted of the same ride a ride at DL and DCA that share something in common, hmmm or a father who poured monorail pylons when DL built it and his son worked on the few parts of the track that were moved during DCA construction that would be the one ride that is "in" both parks even if it does not stop at DCA

I'm thinking I heard someone tried to grow some out on Tom Sawyer Island, the fenced off end, but don't recall where I heard this.

This is a mergers and aquisitions type question, yes they bought a studio that did this (I think it was part of a larger aquisiton) again I'm sketchy on details, still in the realm of "trick questions" though for those of us who make the distinction between Walt Disney Pictures that we think of as "disney movies" as opposed to those Holywood Pictures and Touchstone Pictures movies.

Arrow built a few atttractions and produced parts (mostly ride vehicles, track, etc.) of many others the Flying saucers, the Matterhorn, The Mad Tea party,Peter Panís Flight, Snow White , Pirates of the Caribbean, Itís a Small World, the Haunted mansion, parking lot trams, and Casey Juniors engines.

...one source that list arrow for the original 1955 installation of Dumbo also notes The ride was replaced in the mid-90's by a new ride from Zamperla of Italy.
