When did River Country Close
I was looking at a google earth map of Fort Wilderness, and Noticed River Country behind The stables and Pioneer Hall. I had completely forgotten about this place that I had been to in the late 80's. I was wondering if anyone knows when it closed and Why they closed it? Thanks for Your help with this great Memory!

It closed in November 2001 because of the contamanets of Bay Lake and the 2 other much larger water parks.
I agree... it seems like there is space wasting away by not having it open. They should put something in it's place! I sadly never did get to visit River Country... does anyone have any pictures of it or know where I could get some?
My name is Emily and I am addicted to Walt Disney World. There, I said it and I'm proud. Louis Mongello, you are my hero!
Moving to St. Petersburg, FL in November!!!
I will be at WDW every two weeks then... I can't wait!
They did at one point put in a filtration system, but with the two larger parks it became to costly to run.
too costly for disney? must have really cost them A LOT
NADIA a dream is a wish your heart makes
Ok,sorry, didn't make enough money to justify the expense.

That said, I loved River Country and would have loved to see it reopen, I hope they turn there eye to re-purposing or fixing up this area again soon, and I hope wheatever they put in has a similar charm to that which River Country had.
