Dining Plan or Not to Dining Plan?

Okay so on our honeymoon, we are staying four nights. We are just debating if we want to add on a 2 day dining plan or not.

Monday night we have our rehearsal dinner and we check-in.

Then on Tuesday it's our actual wedding do so we won't spend any that day!

Wednesday we have a DAK special Wildlife Safari and dinner at Coral Reef

Thursday we have a portrait session in Epcot and then dinner at California Grill.

We are also staying concierge so we have access to the concierge lounge.

However, we can't figure out if it's worth it to spring for the dining plan or not...

    any suggestions?

I think you would have to use two table service credits for California Grill, so there goes both of your table service credits...I'd say the concierge would be better than most quick service meals, if you want to travel back to the resort to eat.

I am gathering you are thinking of the basic Dining Plan with one snack, one quick service and one table. So based on that, I would question it but there are various ways to look at it. With 2 days/2 table credits, California Grill would be paid for. So I would look at the menus at allearsnet.com to see how much you are likely to spend to see if it would be worth it. You won't have to worry about breakfast but you could use use your quick service credits at any time. You may be a bit hungry the day of your photo shoot so you might use one there. With sodas costing over $2, you could get those taken care of without having to fork over the cash. So you might lose one quick service meal but you could use that for breakfast if you don't want to do conceirge or Friday lunch?

So does the DAK Special Safari include food? You might use the credit then? That would mean that you would only have to pay out of pocket for Coral Reef.

I think you could use all of your meals easily unless you do want to go back to the resort all the time but you might (family site). For us, it was more of the desire not to have to pay for everything out of pocket all of the time. It was important that my kids be able to get a snack anytime they wanted instead of budgeting how thirsty/snacky hungry they would get.

So I would probably figure out how much it would cost to do the two table services out of pocket then compare that to the cost of the plan.

Thanks Gae. Yeah, we'd do the basic as there's a special with our resort reservation right now...

I really don't know how much time we'll spend at the Poly and how much time we'll spend in the resort!

If we decide to order more than just what the basic dining plan includes can we use that with the dining plan?

    Since we've never used it...

If you have appetizers or drinks, that would be separate. I do not know if they would put the gratuity for the plan and the appetizer/drinks on the same bill but it would seem to me that they might. They sure don't mind you spending extra!

This is a toughie. However, if I can venture a guess as to what will work out better, I would say the dining plan. The food that is served on the concierge level is very good, and although it's billed as hors d'oeuvers at night, there are usually 1-2 entree-type things served that are typically very good. You will get a menu in your room of what is served. When you're at your resort, then just just eat there instead of using a meal credit - you won't go hungry!

We may call tomorrow and add on two days of the dining plan, as long as we don't have to buy a one-day ticket (part of a special deal) and as long as we don't have to take all four days... because we definitely don't need four. I could possibly go for a three day, just knowing i'll waste some of it, but I'm okay with that.

I don't know the specifics of how many days/ tickets things but that would have to be a factor. No need to buy more than you really need! Time sure is running crazy for you now!

Dollar for Dollar the Dining plan does not pan out very well if you are spending 2 sit down credits for one meal. It is generally cheaper to pay for the meal out right.

If this were 2 years ago I would say dining plan. But since they changed it, it would have cost us more for the 4 of us. We have used it in the past and loved it. Oct 08 we decided not to use it. We ate very conservatively. We only had 2 sit down dinners. We did miss all the food we normally get. In the end, this past visit, we saved a lot of money not using the dining plan. We just didn't get to eat like we were used to.

We looked last night at the California Grill menu, and it WILL save us money just from that meal if we get the dining plan.

My only question is... do they limit what entree's you can get?

Nope, they don't limit. You can order any entree and dessert off the menu.

Have you checked if they will let you do the dining plan for only part of your stay Jeanne? I thought you had to have it for the length of your stay....

No, but it's a special package and whatnot, so I'll make Ryan call today and find out!
