Free DDP and ordering cocktails

I'm heading to Disney this September and have the free dining (which I've never done before). I know the DDP covers the entree, dessert, and a soft drink, but if you order a cocktail, can you just pay for that on the side?

Re: Free DDP and ordering cocktails

It is not really difficult actually(and luckily). You order what you want including cocktails. After your meal, they give you a check for the whole thing. You hand them your room key because it has your dining plan information on it. You have an option of paying cash for the difference, putting it on a debit/credit card or you can put it on the card that you gave to the front desk at your hotel.

It is nice to be able to use one card to do so much with but it is easy to buy too much since all you have to do is throw out that room key! I like the charging priviledges but I think next trip, I am going to watch it!

I hope you have a great trip!

Re: Free DDP and ordering cocktails

As SnwhtNdwrfs said -- you can order what you want & pay the difference.

I would suggest, when your server first comes to the table, let them know you are on the dining plan. It lets them get it into the computer up front -- easier than putting everything in & then having to edit the order to add the dining plan.

It isn't required, but it makes it easier on them & may save you a few minutes at the end of the meal when cashing out.

Also - be aware that some things don't qualify for the dining plan or may take extra credits.
I remember LeCellier (sp?) had one appetizer that required 2 appetizer credits. SIL & I shared one, so it worked out fine, but just be aware that while most things are fine, there are a few exceptions.

Those were handy hints. I'm also using the DDP in September for the time and it does seem a bit confusing.

When in doubt, ask your server. They should be well versed in what counts what doesn't and what works best for their restaurant.

Enjoy! I can't wait to be able to make some reservations myself!
