| Over at The Practical Mom's Disney Vacation Companion Facebook we've been discussing the Disney Dining Plan. I thought I would post it here to see what the WDW Radio folks think about the idea. Based on a blog I just read, it occurs to me that one way that Disney might make the DDP more attractive is to offer the option of switching out dessert for an appetizer. That is, you can choose one or the other with your table service meal. Counter service venues don't typically offer an appetizer as such. We quite often will split a dessert, so if one person opts for dessert and another opts for an appetizer that we split, we can get both and yet not be totally stuffed to the gills. So, what do you think? Last edited by Practical Mom; 01-22-2010 at 03:25 PM.. |

| Re: Disney Dining Plan Dessert Swap Doesn't it? Not everyone wants dessert and not everyone wants appetizer and few want both, so having the option of either/or would be the best of all. |

| Off to Neverland! | Re: Disney Dining Plan Dessert Swap I like the idea of swapping. I'd rather have an appetizer than desert most times.

| Re: Disney Dining Plan Dessert Swap I also think that dessert should be interchangeable with a specialty coffee drink, like cappuccino or a latte, because I (and I'm sure most people) am usually full after eating an entree and don't even want dessert.

| Re: Disney Dining Plan Dessert Swap I think it sounds like a good idea, but I think why they don't do it is because an appetizer is more labor intensive than a dessert. So it's cheaper for the restaurant to serve you a slice of cheesecake (and if they were selling it to you, they'd make a better profit) than if they were to put together a tomato & mozzarella salad. I should say, I don't dislike the idea, and quite frankly it might make me purchase the DDP, but I can see why they don't do it ![]()

| Re: Disney Dining Plan Dessert Swap Through 2007 you received both. There was alot of talk and letters written to make it an either or since they lowered the price by one dollar and removed the appetizer and took away the included gratuity. Nothing came about. Desserts are not made on the restaurant sight. They are made in the dessert kitchen. Each Chef, at each restaurant picks his desserts for the menu and orders them from the Disney Dessert kitchen. I think it is also about time. Flipp'n those tables fast is why Disney removed the appetizer. You linger to long and wait to order the entree. |

| Re: Disney Dining Plan Dessert Swap I think switching would be great. I also agree with bety to be able to opt for a specialty drink. |

Not going to happen IMHO you have the reason right in your next to last sentence. Now you have an appetizer and desert with your meal, you are at the table that much longer with no extra income for either the resturant or server. Disney isn't making a lot per person on this plan, they have to turn tables! | |

| Re: Disney Dining Plan Dessert Swap We said the same thing when we were there in November, we thought they should give you the option of a dessert or appetizer, but it didn't take long to figure out why they switched it and will probably never give you the option. The appetizer is at the beginning of your meal and you will order it because you have just sat down and your hungry, it doesn't matter if you eat it or not, the fact that it's ordered is money out of Disney's pocket. By the time you get to dessert many people are full and don't even bother to order dessert. Even if they do, a bowl of ice cream is cheaper then a crab cake. We made the mistake of going to a 2 credit restaurant and I thought I read that an appetizer was included so both my DH and I ordered expensive appetizers, turns out I read it wrong and I think it was only children were allowed apps., so we had to pay out of pocket for the apps.![]() Last edited by GIOny; 01-27-2010 at 02:02 PM.. |

| Re: Disney Dining Plan Dessert Swap I would be fine with this option. Sometimes there are better apps then desserts..and vice versa.
