We have never used the DDP so not sure if this is a big increase or not.
Here are the first of the changes for the Dining Plan for 2012.
Also the prices.

Some people are like Slinkies.
They aren't really good for anything,
but they still bring a smile to my face when I push them down a flight of stairs.
Friends are Gods way of apologizing to us for our families.

Meh...I never use it, but I guess it always seemed like a good thing...but lowering the snack limit to 1 isn't so bad...when I was down back in November for my cousin's wedding, in one of the gift shops on the Grand Canyon Concourse in the Contemporary (where I was staying; forget which shop), a couple was getting a lot of snacks, like 8 mickey-shaped rice krispie treats, and fudge and other stuff to take home because they had so many snacks left over...just a thought
I think the biggest advantage to it is simply the fact of just not having to use cash all that much, if not at all

grrrr the ddp is amazing , we calcuated it on our last trip and it was around $960 for a family of four for 6 days. We used to keep our snacks and bank them for the long ride home. We would leave with like $200 worth of snacks

I like the addition of the refillable resort mug; it's nice to see them finally add something to the plan, rather than the usual deduction and/or price increase.
I remember when I first started using the DDP back in 2006, the cost was $38/person and that included an appetizer and gratuity on the table service option!

Welcome to the Magic Kingdom!
I'm with N.J.boy @ N.C.St. We've never seen the benefit of the dining plan, even when free dining has been available. I'm normally one of a party of two adults, and AP or general public discounts at the Deluxes always beat the dining plan by a country mile. I also dislike booking a package, since I don't like the payment terms and I have to pay full fare for my tickets.
Walt Disney World has become a touchstone for me, a constant in a world where everything changes. Again and again I have come back to this place, grounding myself, communing with all the people I've been.
