Need a rec for quick service in one of the monorail resorts!
Hi, everyone! My 6 year old daughter and I are taking a special two-of-us trip at the end of January. We are arriving to the resort around noon on a Saturday and staying at Pop Century. One of our traditions when we arrive at WDW is to take a ride on the monorail on our first day/night. We couldn't get an ADR at a good time at Chef Mickey's - another tradition - which is OK because this is a budget trip. But I was thinking it would be fun to have dinner at either the Poly or Grand Floridian because she has never been to either one of those resorts. (We have never gotten off the monorail at those resorts during our rides before.)
Anyway, can you recommend a counter service place for us to eat dinner at either one of those resorts, OR the Contemporary?
Thank you!!

Re: Need a rec for quick service in one of the monorail resorts!
It is only a launch away instead of the monorail but I really like Roaring Forks at Wilderness Lodge. It has been way too long since I have stayed to GF and Contemporary to even know anything. I think the counter service at Poly is decent?
Anyway, I suggest taking a launch to WL and eat there. Great atmosphere with the waterfalls, relaxing boat ride, and good food.
But I bet someone here can give you good advice for the Monorail hotels.

I haven't eaten there but I hear Capt Cooks or whatever it is called at the Poly has Dole Whips

I like the Poly's if I was going to chose along the monorail line.

I've never eaten at Roaring Forks, but if you're willing to head over to the Wilderness Lodge, I'm a huge proponent of Whispering Canyon Cafe. It is one of the most reasonably priced sit down restaurants...literally only a couple dollars more than a QS.
Other than that...Contempo Cafe in the Contemporary is also very good for a QS. It's right next to Chef Mickey's, so you still get the atmosphere of sitting down while the monorails go by through the Grand Canyon Concourse.

I got the impression it wasn't open for dinner. Please tell me I'm wrong!

You're wrong!
As far as I know it's open until midnight. When I was down for my cousin's wedding last November, I was staying with my family in the Contemporary. After arriving (very) late to the Epcot dessert party, I didn't get to eat. So I had an 11pm dinner at Contempo that night.

One more vote for Capt Cooks.
Although I could see Contempo Cafe as well, they seem very reasonably priced and watching the monorails is always fascinating.

You could try the quick service Gasparilla grill (spelling), at the grand Floridian they have a lot of options for less than most restaurants.
We are going back in late June for 8 days 7 nights. Only taking husband and number 4 son. Very nice!

I'd vote for Capt Cooks as well. Take your trays out to the waters edge and enjoy the sounds of the boats and the water lapping the sands while grabbing a view of the Contemporary and Castle.

I vote for Captain Cooks as well. I've eaten there and it was pretty good. That being said, its the only monorail line counter service I've eaten at.
I'm not a fan of the counter service at Wilderness Lodge. OK food.... poor selection.

I havet done it myself yet, but I would say go to the Poly to Capt Cooks (self serve Dole Whip for dessert) then depending how late you are there head to the beach to watch Wishes!!!

Re: Need a rec for quick service in one of the monorail resorts!
Contempo Cafe simply cannot be beat. The atmosphere alone puts it head and shoulders above any of the others. The food there isn't all that bad either. Far better than Capt. Cook's, IMO. The food there is pretty bad even by Disney quick service standards.
