Dirty water dogs rock the house. But, they can't beat a Chicago dog.
It's like shrimp along the Gulf Coast, or steak in Kansas City, or lobster along the northeast coast. Sure, you can get all of those things elsewhere but they're just pale imitations.
BTW, how does one "wakle"?![]()
I've had many different combinations of condiments on my hot dogs over the years. I remember when I frist had one with ketchup/catsup on it when I was a kid...NEVER again.
I like mostly mustard or mustard with sauerkraut but, also, like a good chili cheese dog with mustard and onions, as well.
Not a big fan of pickle relish, but there was a really awesome relish bar with pepper relishes at Refreshment Corner in DLR last time we were there in june of '10.
That all bein' said, to me, sometimes there is nothin' better than just a plain good quality, fresh outta' the water/off the grill dog on a nice fresh bun.![]()

I actually like a little ketchup on my chili dogs. And Tobasco...
I eat ketchup on lots of other things actually, but, it just never has tasted right to me on a hot dog.
I do LOVES me some Tobasco, though...!![]()
One of the things I like to do is mix it in with my ketchup for my fries.![]()

On the detour:
Having been a Midwest marine surveyor for many years, our shipments come in by air to the good seafood restaurants. Caught mornings, generally arriving by 1pm and in restaurants by evening.

Ketchup on a hotdog is like Buddy putting syrup on his spaghetti.

As HG alludes, it depends on where you're getting it. Our McCormick & Schmicks at the Plaza in KC has a pretty fair quality.
But, having grown up on the Gulf Coast in Florida, I can honestly say I've had nothing in KC, St. Louis, Chicago, etc. that even comes close to the freshest offerings along the Gulf Coast.
Until you've had a big bowl of peel-n-eat that was loaded off the boat into the waterside restaurant, or Grouper caught by a local fisherman hired by a restaurant, you have no real idea what fresh seafood is really like.
