[QUOTE=tiggerwannabe;850854]Please pardon it's size, but here is a shot of Mom's side of our family...

~That is all five of her grandchildren, both daughters and both our husbands~

We used Rose's timeshare, a 3 bedroom home at Summer Bay, for that week.

It's one of the few places in Orlando that could accommodate our entire group,

for a very reasonable price.

Great family photo! You all do look close & that is always special!

Learned digital design after mastering photography, moved on the video production after that and wound up in entertainment technologies before I finished with my schooling. I would take something apart just to see how it worked. Have read every book I can get my hands on to learn more about the wonderful world known as Disney.

I call Rose my enabler because she and I have been to the parks at least 20 times in the last ten years together and would pack up and go again if she asked me. Mom has contributed some. Being retired military, Mom discovered shades of green. It's a military only resort that is within walking distance from the front doors of the Polynesian.

Mom has taken my family to SOG a couple times now...and when I say taken us, I mean both my sister's family and mine. All together, we can be as many as ten. Good thing we all know how to enjoy each others company. We have memories of lots of wonderful trips thanks to these two~ I count my blessings each and every time ~
It so does sound like you have the touch! I only wish I was so talented. I dabble with scrapbooking & photography but nothing professional. I love to take pictures & be in them. Keith loves to take them too!

I think my real love of Disney started when my mom won a trip to WDW.

I think I was in the 7th grade, so sometime around 1989 I think, and had been to Disney a couple of times before then, but that was the best trip. Our local radio station had a morning DJ named Murphy and they had a promo every day called Murphy's Morning Song. He played a song at a certain time every day, then when it played again during the day, you called in and the 10th caller won $1000. Well, when I was in the 7th grade, they ran a SPECIAL version of the promo. Murphy and MICKEY's Money Song. If you were the 10th caller you not only won the $1000 but also an all expenses paid trip for 4 to WDW.

Mom was CONVINCED she was going to win from the minute she heard about the contest. On day 1 she walked into work carrying her boombox so she could make sure and listen for the song. She endured much teasing from her office mates, and just responded that they could laugh but she WOULD be winning that trip to Disney World. Now I can't remember what the obstacles were on Monday and Tuesday (I'm sure she'll chime in and add to it), but Wednesday is the important day. The song that day was "Hard for me to say I'm sorry" by Chicago (this became the source of much discussion in the years that followed because of the special second song attached to that song on the 82-89 greatest hits album and that was the version of the song that was played. We were at our house when the song came on....mom ran to the kitchen phone and started dialing furiously. Next thing I knew...she got really excited but seemed confused too. When radio shows do call in contest like that....they usually take and record the calls during the song while its still playing.... Mom was being told she won, but still hearing the song on the radio so she was a bit confused. She yelled for us to hurry up and try to record it when she realized what was happening. The tape has since gone missing...but it was great to listen to how crazy excited she was.

The contest ran for 3 weeks, and all the winners were on the same flight down to Orlando from Chicago. The prize included a stay at Caribbean Beach, park tickets, transportation, and food tickets that covered EVERYTHING at your meal you could want including gratuities. Mom used the $1000 to then extend our trip and moved us to the Contemporary for a few extra days. We had so many food tickets that those still covered all of our meals for our stay.

It was AWESOME. I think it was probably my third trip to WDW, and only the second trip for my brother and sister. And although I've loved all my trips to WDW over the years, its the one that always stands out to me because of the fact that it was the trip that mom won for us.
Shelley this story is so full of fun memories. Wow I can just picture your mom & how excited she was. I can understand why this stands to be your favorite trip to just for that fact! Awesome.

Re: The Deck 7 Disney Dream Neighbors

[QUOTE=DDFJo;850911]Okay, so Mom is chiming in now. On Monday, I heard the song immediately, but was doing something for my boss and couldn't break away in time to call in. Tuesday was much the same, but I wasn't discouraged as I was SURE I was going to win.

Wednesday dawned and I had a terrible migraine. I left work to go to the doctor about 30 minutes away and didn't hear the song before I left. When I got back into the car after the appointment I still didn't hear the song. About now I was actually getting really worried because every other day I kept hearing teasers about the song still needing to be played, or DRAT! promos on who had already won that day. Heading home from the doctor's with that nasty, nasty headache I was sure I was done and started to worry that there were only two days to go. I arrived home and turned on the radio just in case. There was only about 20 minutes to go until the contest was to end for the day, and I STILL hadn't heard either the song or if someone else had already won.

Within seconds I heard Chicago playing. Now you have to keep in mind that I don't normally recognize specific music, but that day I think I recognized the song with the very first note. As Shel said, I dialed endlessly and finally got through. I was chatting with the radio personality and was sure I had not won because the song was still playing (I obviously didn't know about the delay!). Finally the DJ tells me I've won and he starts to record the call. Afterward he told me that it was the best call he ever took from a winner because I was crazy excited and screaming (while jumping up and down), but was still very understandable as opposed to just shrieking.

We did lose the tape, but for a few weeks I had the pleasure of hearing myself on the radio every time they played the promo. Talk about a big build up to a trip!!!!

What Shel didn't say is that I was separated from her dad, depressed and struggling to make ends meet raising three kids. Winning this trip was a balm for my soul. Not only did I get to take all four of us to my favorite place on earth, but we got to do it feeling like kings and queens every second of the way. It was truly an amazing experience!

Jo, that is so special for all of you then. So glad that you won that trip you truly deserved it!

If you think you can picture how excited she was based on my post...wait til you meet her! I bet she was 10 times more excited than what you are imagining! We often joke that she's "younger" than I am...and she gets CRAZY excited about stuff!

Wow, I don't even remember that pic. I like it.

I was looking at pics of the "Oasis Of The Seas" Cruise ship. Very impressive.
Shopping Mall, Loft Stateroom, a zillion dining rooms. Of course, I will stick with Disney.
