Never been on a cruise
We're contemplating our first cruise. Since we're huge Disney fans we figure if we're gonna go on a cruise it's going to be a Disney cruise. We have been going to WDW every year for a while now so we want to do a split vacation, part sea part land next May. What can you guys tell me about the motion of the ship? Does it get annoying? Can you feel it? Can you still feel the sway when you're back on land? Would love to hear any input.

Re: Never been on a cruise
We did a land and sea vacation back in 03 and enjoyed it very much! We were fortunate for good seas every night but our last night. There was a storm over us and if you sat still you could feel the boat rocking a tiny bit but if you were up and walking you couldn't feel a thing. The ships have a stabilizer thing (looks kinda like wings on an airplane from a picture I've seen) under neath the hall of the boat that helps to keep it steady as much as possible. The first day I felt a little off but got used to the ship movement fast. And when you debark the ship and your back on land I found that you feel like your in a moon bounce at times lol. Does it get annoying, no I didn't find it annoying you get used to if fast.
I hope you enjoy your first cruise and I can't wait to get back on a Disney cruise soon!!

Re: Never been on a cruise
My boyfriend went on a cruise and started to feel a bit sick on the first day... he was avoiding eating because of it, but a lady who worked there told him that you're more likely to feel seasick on an empty stomach and to eat something. He did and felt MUCH better and had no problem the rest of the trip- so long as he made sure he didn't skip any meals.

Unfortunately I can't make it at that time. But isn't it all booked up?

Re: Never been on a cruise
Me again...our second part of our trip will be WDW. Any opinions on the transition from Port Canaveral to your resort?

Re: Never been on a cruise
It's not necessarily the cheapest option. But we always use the Disney transfers. Very easy.

Re: Never been on a cruise
I've been on 2 cruises. I think I felt the motion of the ship the first day but then I got my sea legs and it was fine. And it's not like a swaying back and forth that'll get you sick kind of motion. It's just kind of like the ground moves a bit underneath you and that throws your balance off a bit. It's actually kind of funny to watch everyone --yourself included -- kind of stagger down the hallway the first day. But it's really not bad at all. And if you have any issues with motion sickness they have the tablets freely available outside sickbay.
I absolutely adore cruising!!! Never knew I'd like it as much as I do but adore it! Just think.... you're in a 5 star hotel that moves around to different interesting places to visit. It's totally cool! Have a great time!

Re: Never been on a cruise
I think the motion of the ship varies from person to person and from ship to ship. As a general rule, motion tends to be more noticeable the smaller the ship is.
The normal motion on the Carnival Fantasy was much more noticeable to me than on either of the two Disney ships. When the Carnival ship pulled into port overnight, the ceasing of the engine vibrations and rocking of the ship actually woke me up. The Disney ships are much more solid. On two of my Disney cruises, the motion of the ship was virtually unnoticeable. On the other, we had really rough seas one night, which you could definitely feel because the water was too shallow for them to extend the ships' stabilizer wings.
That being said, I don't really feel that I had to get my "sea legs" on any of my four cruises I've been on except for our one cruise when we were in rough seas on the Magic. I also never felt nausious on any of my cruises, and went on all of them without the use of Dramamine. Unless you're prone to motion sickness I think you'll be fine.

Re: Never been on a cruise
I've only been on one cruise and it was through Disney...It was great! I'd do another in a heartbeat. I do have a daughter who gets motion sickness and the first night was the worst for her but she handled it fairly well and managed to keep everything down. Castaway Cay is by far the highlight of the cruise IMO.

Am I correct in hearing it's about $69 per person? May be cheaper for us to rent a car.
