I always hear AP holders talk about being able to apply the 1 day ticket they are required to purchase in order to get free dining to the purchase price of their next AP.
Yes - often times (if the value is good) AP holders will book a Magic Your Way package with a 1-day base ticket (per guest) in order to receive the free dining. Again, it takes a little number crunching to make sure that the value is still there since AP holders can add dining plans to their AP discounted room-only reservations.
I heard somewhere (that dratted "little bird") that in the free dining promotion, the dining isn't really free, just discounted slightly, because Disney will charge you rack rate for the room. Has anyone else heard this or done the math? I plan to do it myself if/when a Free Dining plan is offered.
No, that's not true. If you book your entire stay in Value season, then you get Value season rates with your free dining. But for example if you are staying for 6 nights and the first 3 nights are in Value season and the next 3 nights are in Regular season then you'll pay Value rates for 3 nights and Regular rates for 3 nights. Free dining will still be free and it has nothing to do with the room rates.
