I read this today as well. Lori and I have determined that Johnny Depp should be Prince Phillip, lol.
Fresh off the set of his "Alice in Wonderland" movie, Tim Burton is supposedly remaking Sleeping Beauty, only as told through the eyes of its most recognizable character: Maleficent.
The project is supposedly titled, appropriately enough, "Maleficent" and, presumably banking on the success of Wicked, will be the rest of the Mistress of All Evil's story, including why she has the beef with Aurora's parents and wishes to destroy their lives.
I couldn't find anything definite on the interwebs, so I'm guessing it's currently just a rumor.
However, I was going to post a link, but when I googled up "Tim Burton, Sleeping Beauty" it returned so many choices that I decided to just advise anyone interested to do the same and googly it themselves.
If we can dream it, we can do it

TIm BUrton is a genius, but his take on things is very creepy sometimes. DD wants to see Alice, I would Love to see Sleeping Beauty redone from his creepy perspective. With maybe Jason Statham as Prince Philip, and Emma Roberts as Aurora and Susan Sarandon as Maleficent.
P.U.S.H.-A mantra MOST will not understand.
Disney rocks, Walt was a genius.
i would totally love for him to do something like this..it would be awesome.. im such a tim burton fan!!!!

Looking forward to it myself since Maleficent is the only reason I own and will sit through Sleeping Beauty.
And I have said this before, but I'll say it again... If Tim Burton insists on bringing others' stories to screen, why not tap into some of Poe's work already?!?!

I'm personally not too sure why Disney is remaking so many classically-delicious movies. The previews for Alice in Wonderland scares the bejeezes out of me! I prefer the classic, animated versions and I'm sure a lot of small children would agree with me :P
However, I must give snaps to Tim Burton for doing his job: giving us nightmares. He sure does it well.
Oh dear. PLEASE don't remake Sleeping Beauty. I like Tim Burton but I don't think I'm even going to like Alice In Wonderland.
Love, Kerri
I'm not a fan of Tim Burton. Too demented for my taste.
Personally, before he does anything else, I'd rather like Mr. Burton to keep his promise and grace us with the long overdue Beetlejuice sequel.

Not to get too far off the topic, but I'd just like to declare that I'd appreciate if the guy who wrote Wicked would consider doing another series of books from the point of view of Gargamel.
