I'll be the downer and say I wasn't a big fan of it. I wasn't able to make it through the first two episodes without laughing a lot at stuff that was clearly not supposed to be funny. I like most of the cast (or don't think any of them are bad), but the storytelling was very weak and uber-serious.
I think the concept is intriguing, but transplanting fairy tale characters into the real world becomes over-the-top and obnoxious if you do it wrong. As such, the real-world version of the Evil Queen seems like she's a character out of a soap opera from the 1970s. Just too cartoony for me.
Not saying it's my favorite show of all time but I think it's an interesting concept. I'll keep watching it.

There's been a comic book series out called Fables which mines the same territory as OUAT. ABC originally was going to develop Fables at a series but decided to take it in a different direction. And that's okay OUAT is geared towards families more while Fables is very adult. But if your able to handle a more adult oriented take on fairy tales, Fables comes with my highest recomendation.

I tried watching the first episode on Hulu. I couldn't make it all the way through it. I'm not one for that fantasy genre.

Just started watching it with my 14 yo DD and am now hooked.
Don't forget that these are fictional characters living in a fictional world so a bit of poetic license can be allowed. They may have forgotten that they are fairy-tale characters but that doesn't mean they don't still have their fairy-tale personalities.
I just hope the psychologist Mr. Hopper doesn't say "Let your conscience be your guide"!
There's also 'The Sisters Grimm' series of books by Michael Buckley that uses fairy-tale characters in a 'real world' situation.Originally Posted by DAR,981733

I love this and the amazing part is that my whole family loves it to. Its a fairy tale with princesses which my 5 year old loves and it has some action which my husband likes. There are so few shows that we all agree on and can watch. Its nice to have a show we can watch together.
me and my mom watch it together lol , great show so far

If anything, I'd rather the writers take more poetic license with the real-world version of the characters. My issue is that the Evil Queen's villainy, transposed into the real world (or a version of the real world), seems outrageous, compared with every other character, even those with more obviously fairy-tale character traits. Snow White having a bluebird on her arm was kind of cheesy, but I believed that more than the Evil Queen, as her real-world character, hissing and threatening to destroy Emma.Don't forget that these are fictional characters living in a fictional world so a bit of poetic license can be allowed. They may have forgotten that they are fairy-tale characters but that doesn't mean they don't still have their fairy-tale personalities.
