The drawbridge on Sleeping Beauty Castle actually works, but it's only been lowered twice - once on July 17, 1955, and again in 1983 for the re-dedication of the "New Fantasyland"
From the Hub, you're actually looking at the original backside of Sleeping Beauty Castle. One day, Walt was looking at the Castle from Fantasyland and decided that it looked prettier that way, so he had the builders turn it around.
