Very cool! I'd like to see a park that potentially has the ability to trump Disney World
Mainland China Gets Its First Disneyland
Mickey Mouse looks set to come to mainland China at last after Disneyland gets approval to build a theme park in the country's largest city.
Shanghai will be home to the most ambitious Disney theme park in the world if plans approved by China's National Development Commission go ahead.
Costs for the project will exceed $3.6 billion and will include the traditional Magic Kingdom and other Disney attractions.
The park will be sited on reclaimed paddy fields in the eastern district of Pudong.
Local farmers were moved off the land years ago to make way for the park.

Wow, a Disneyland in Communist China, who'd a thunk it.

Disney Wins Approval in Shanghai
We love China and it will be fun to plan another trip over there in a few years! Shanghai is a very cool city!
Is anyone else troubled about our presence in communist china? I would never consider going there.
This just might give people a reason to go there now

To me, communist china is only a little bit better than nazi germany...I wonder if Disney would have considered a park there as well, if WW2 had turned out differently.
Wow! Can you imagine Walt's reaction to putting his park in a communist country. He didn't like unions and he certainly couldn't stand the communsits.
IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT REGARDING NEW DISNEY PARK IN SHANGHAI
11.03.09 - The Walt Disney Company today announced that the Project Application Report (PAR) for a Disney theme park in the Pudong district of Shanghai has received approval from the relevant authorities of the central government of China.
"China is one of the most dynamic, exciting and important countries in the world, and this approval marks a very significant milestone for The Walt Disney Company in mainland China," said Robert A. Iger, president and CEO of The Walt Disney Company.
The PAR approval will enable Disney and its Shanghai partners to move forward toward a final agreement to build and operate the park and begin preliminary development work. Upon completion of the final agreement, the project's initial phase would include a Magic Kingdom-style theme park with characteristics tailored to the Shanghai region and other amenities consistent with Disney's destination resorts worldwide.

Now that I think of it, didn't Walt refuse admission to the USSR's PM and Communist Party Secretary Kruschev?
I don't think it was him personally who did. I thought it was police that did that because they couldn't guarantee his security.

Either way; SUCCESS! No stinkin' commie in Disneyland.
USA, USA, USA!!!
I'd like to see all of the phase 2s and improvements to other parks before they start on a new one. They have 2 major struggling parks (DCA and Disney Studios Paris) that need lots of attention DCA is only starting to get it. There are many phase 2s for Epcot, animal kingdom, and DHS that have been planned and would have been amazing, but they're not being carried out! Look at Hong Kong Disneyland, for goodness sake. The poor park's going to be trumped by a new park, and it hardly ever had a chance. I do agree that China may cause some issues with what can and can't be put in the parks, and how it can be placed. I also hope that they concider where Walt was from, and where the original park was, and always will be...
The Golden age never was the present age… but with human liberty we can fulfill the promise and meaning of America. To everyone a chance. To all people, regardless of their birth the right to live, to work, to be themselves, and to become whatever their visions can combine to make them. This is the promise of America...And I foresee the American adventure to continue for a long, long time!
