Marathon training

I only have 4 miles to go before I hit the Team Voice challenge target. I'm only walking right now. However, I have increased my walking speed to a 14 minute mile. Up from a 16 mm when I first started.

Since we had a 2 hour delay this morning I decided to get on the treadmill this morning instead of my normal time, after work. I was doing really well but when I started into a light jog my side started hurting. What causes these side pains? I didn't have it yesterday when I was jogging.

Since we had a 2 hour delay this morning I decided to get on the treadmill this morning instead of my normal time, after work. I was doing really well but when I started into a light jog my side started hurting. What causes these side pains? I didn't have it yesterday when I was jogging.

Could be many things. You might be working muscles you normally do not use. It could be from not stretching properly. It could also be from what you ate or drank before you ran. I used to have a cup of coffee in the morning before my run and I was always getting this pain in mysides. I told my doctor about this and he told me to drink the coffee afterwards because coffee is a stimulant and is most likely causing my pain(cramps). Have you seen your doctor yet since you decided to train? If not go see her/him because they will be able to show you some stretches to help with the pain. Good luck!

stretching will help,shoes,and yes if you are using muscles you normally do not use you will hurt.
I am up to 47.01 miles this month!!!!

So you're on Tai-Bo (sp?). I've heard that that program works really well.

Team Burnham Raises $125,000 during Disney Marathon

Raising more than $125,000 for medical research and awareness for its presence in Central Florida, scientists and supporters of the Burnham Institute for Medical Research recently competed in Disney's marathon weekend. The 36 runners from "Team Burnham" generated 750 donations from 32 states and 11 countries. "The Burnham Institute for Medical Research is at the leading edge of the race to find new ways to treat and prevent diabetes and obesity," said Elizabeth Gianini, Burnham at Lake Nona vice president of external relations and a runner for Team Burnham. "Participating in the Disney Marathon was a fitting way to show the Central Florida community that we have hit the ground running." Joining Gianini on Team Burnham was Burnham CEO Dr. John Reed, faculty member Maurizio Pellecchia, Ph.D. and 15 Burnham employees from the La Jolla, Calif. campus.
