Marathon training

So what did you do to your knees?? I have bad knees too. My left knee I had 2 surgeries,and my right knee 1 surgery.They needed to be cleaned up. My right one is just a year old in November of this year.I am not running but I am speed walking. My sports medicine doctor does not want me to run. But if I can keep pace walking go for it he said. Right now I can speedwalk a 5k in 45 minutes. The half requires a 16 minute mile.The regular Marathon is 15 minute mile. This is the last year for the Minnie Marathon weekend if you can give it a go and get your Minnie medal.

Update time:Since I have had problems with my knees I have been taking it easy. I did run today and I feel great. NO problems with my knees at all. Was able to run a 10min. mile. I did end up going to this store here in Rochester called the good feet store. They specialize in arch supports of all kinds. I have been wearing them for about 3 weeks now and am wondering if being out of aglingment is the reason for my knee pain. I will still be attending P.T. and hope this ends there. Besides that I will not run on sunday because we are supposed to get hit with 2' of snow. I guess I will have to listen to Lou's pod cast in the warmth of my home. Thats all for now. How is everyone else doing?

The weather here is great . I haven't been doing to much since I have arch pain.I have new shoes to keep my ankles from turning in, but my right arch is still hurting. So I will try to get my 3 mile iv tonight or go cross train on the bike.

rae! if you have not all ready get some arch supports made for running. The place I went to took a foot print of me walking to see how my foot hits the ground. It is pretty eye opening. That is how I found out that I have high arches. I'll tell you that I can really feel the supports on my arches. Feels weird at first, but you get used to them. GO TEAM VOICE!

Well I did run in the snow today. There was only about 4'' on the roads and sidewalks. I"ll tell ya that I felt like I had an extra 20 or so pounds on my shoes. Instead of a 10min. mile I was at 15min. mile. Thinking though that running in the snow will be very good for my training. As I type this we are now getting dumped on by the snow we were supposed to get this morning. Thats all for now. GO TEAM VOICE!

Hey rae! thanks for telling us about the support group!
Ok, I just got in from Disney and I didn't do a dang thing as far as training goes. I also ate like there was no tomorrow.
So now that Parades, Finals, Sickness, Disney, and mostly everything else is out of the way and all I have left is Christmas, I am GOING to start back tomorrow.

You should be able to click on the link that is in one of Rae's posts. If not go to the allaboutthemouse.com click on the link to the forums and go to team voice and add your name to the list. Team voice threads are at the bottom of the page. For my knees they started to hurt a little bit today, but the pain did not last at all. I start my P.T. today and hope this all ends there. P.T. went great. They think that I will not require surgery! I passed all the tests they put my through! I was given some exercises to re-tighten a muscle by my knee cap that is weak. They think that might be a reason for my knee pain. After years of no support for my arches and feet. My knees are trained to move a certain way. Now that they are in proper alignment they think that is also a reason for my knee pain. I have to agree because my knee pain has been getting less intense since I bought my arch supports. And feels like it is going away! Ok I will stop rambling. I have to go run. GO TEAM VOICE!

That is GREAT news!!! Now just remember to do everything the doctor told you to do (thats a problem I have, lol). I do have a question that you guys may be able to answer. I have flat feet. Do I need to buy a shoe with arch support? I've never had a problem before, but I've never really ran before either. What do you guys think?
