Minnie Marathon 2008-Who's going???

So who's going to do the 5K or 15K or both Minnie marathon weekend--May 2-4

Count me in. I am trying to get a group of my co-workers to do this race. I am the "coach" because I have done this race once before. I am not sure if I am doing the 5K as of yet. My mom is going to try and do the 15K, but if she decides that it is too much for her, she is going to do the 5K (then I will do it with her).

We did both races LY and were scheduled for them again but will be on crutches from knee surgery so will be at home.

I liked the DTD 5K course which is now at EPCOT this year. Minnie 15K was nice as had much more energy on that strecth of the marathon course than in Jan

I was hoping to see some race reports! Or is everyone still in Orlando and I'm the only loser who had to rush back to work this week?

It was a good race. It was nice to see a bigger turnout this year even though it's now official that this was the last Minnie 15K.

This was my 2nd Minnie and I cut 14 minutes off last year's time. That really says more about how lousy last year was than how good this year was. The weather and jetlag were a bit of a shock. I arrived Saturday on the red-eye from Seattle. Before checking into my hotel, I had to go to Downtown Disney because my AP and DDE had both expired and then headed to WWoS to pick up the race packet. After settling in at Pop, I headed to the Magic Kingdom for a bit. Somehow I managed to stay awake and not crash until it was time to go to sleep before the race. My alarm went off at 4:30 (1:30 Pacific time) and I started to get ready. I had put everything out the night before. However, somehow, it was all of a sudden 5:25 and I was still in my room!

My plan had been to drive to Epcot and catch the bus to AK, but I figured there was no way I'd be able to get there, park, and still catch the last 5:45 bus. So I drove to Animal Kingdom instead. Somehow I had gotten the start time mixed up in my head. I was in the porto-johns (TMI, I know) when they sang the national anthem and had barely gotten into the corral when the race started. So instead of starting with the 7-9 minute folks I was back at the end of the pack.

It was warm! I have been training in 40F weather and it was in the 60s at finish! Yikes! I was a full minute slower per mile than what I had been training at. Still, I think everyone was feeling the heat. Even at that pace, I still in the top 20% of finishers (and finished under 1:30, which was my worst possible case scenario).

Everything was great at the finish, well organized and all. I must have missed the "entertainment" we were promised. All I remember seeing was Mulan and Mushu at the Studios.

I was feeling pretty good at the finish and headed to AK after cleaning up. It was nice to see all the people out wearing their medals that day. Then I went to Epcot for the evening, but was too tired to stick around for Illuminations.

My last day (yesterday), I took advantage of flying solo this trip and did the Studios in the morning, Typhoon Lagoon in the afternoon, and Magic Kingdom in the evening. But I wasn't up to dealing with the closing exodus so I left before Wishes.

It's sad that this was the last Minnie. The 15K distance is so doable. I have mixed feelings about the Princess 1/2 marathon in March. For one, it's less than 2 months after the Goofy. Some of us travel across the country to make these races and that's just too close together. For another, the route looks like it's the boring last half of the WDW full marathon (basically the Minnie with another 4 miles tacked on). On the plus side, tiara-shaped medals can't be a bad thing. What does everyone else think?
