Great idea, I have to watch Beetlejuice with the kids! We caught a glimpse of the movie at Downtown Disney this summer, the dinner table "Banana Boat Song" bit, my little guy was a little surprised with the shrimp c-ocktails to say the least! I think he may enjoy this one and I would love to watch it again. Love Jaws and I too, freak myself out in the ocean if I start thinking about it!

I enjoyed Ghost Ship, it was fun to watch.

Tonight for me will be The Descent or Friday the 13th, to be continued....

me too. except for Planet of the Apes.
Johnny Depp and Tim Burton do make quite a pair. I think "Ed Wood" may be may favorite of their collaborations.

    October 10th

    the Wolfman (1941)

Lon ChaneyJr., son of the infamous Lon Chaney, makes his true breakthrough appearance in a tale about a normal man who returns to his homeland, only to be bitten by a werewolf.

We hit two of the Universal classics last year (Dracula and Frankenstein), but as October only has 31 days, we didn't get to this one.

Even though this is my third favorite (after the two previously mentioned), it is still really good, and a must-see for any film fan.

I was Ed Wood for Halloweenone year. I grew out a pencil-thin mustache and everything!
There's no way of knowing how correct Burton's portrayal of him was in the movie, but I love it anyway. the way Lugosi was portrayed, as a foul-mouthed crotchety drug addict, was only partially correct. in fact, Lugosi's family was very mad about that movie b/c of that, and b/c they hated Ed Wood (they felt like he was exploiting Bela Lugosi).

So I watched The Descent and Friday the 13th last night, I thought I would be scared but I did just fine! Realized that I had never even seen Friday, no wonder I didn't remember a thing about it......I am guessing that it gets scarier with Jason running around in the later chapters...

    Beetlejuice was out!

I didn't get anything else, too bummed that they only carry the remakes.

That's debatable. A lot of folks feel that for this franchise, it was all downhill after the original (this is also evident in the way the series was being handled in the later installments, after New Line Cinema took over the rights from Paramount. These sequels were treated with a huge degree of self-parody, as if they'd given up on trying to scare people a long time ago). As I'm pretty sure I'd have mentioned last year, my personal favorite in the bloody saga is Part VI, Jason Lives. It's just good, cheap Halloween fun, and unlike most of the films, you might find yourself actually caring about the protagonists in this one.

I heard Evan wasn't as good as Bruce, still worth the watch? I LOVED Bruce Almighty.

To keep with the thread subject, I know you don't like recent movies much T but I really enjoyed "The Ring", any comments on that one? How about Poltergeist, another favorite of mine.

    Poltergeist is genius.

the Ring, as I'm sure you know, is a remake of the Japanese movie "Ringu." however, I thought this remake was ok, even though in general I am adamantly against remakes. Ringu is, of course, better.

A remake, of course...there is nothing original anymore.

That Poltergeist clown is the scariest thing ever.
