From what I understand, the episode was already "in the can" ie finished shooting. From the chat on a CSI forum I saw, he and CBS were having contract negotiation troubles.

Miss Kerry's Flight outta' Detroit was delayed & then her sisters's MIL accidentally locked herself outta' the house where Miss Kerry's car keys were!!!
