My old neighbor who works for FEMA was transferred to NOLA area a year ago. I was surprised to see her uptown this afternoon. FEMA sent her back to her Hamlet, her hometown to deal with the floods. Her BF sent to Indiana by FEMA to deal with the floods. Nice to see that the folks in the North were not forgotten with all the horrible destruction down south.

Too many disasters lately, we all need a break.

What a cool assignment for her. The fed worries over every disaster so not too surprising-it might have affected Ohare and slowed travel down. The scary part is the fall and winter storms in the midwest and north/ northeast, you can be hot and survive with water. BUt if you lose power and it is freezing and snow covered everywhere-you don't have a lot of a chance. I think they are planning ahead. I hope so anyway.

Did you see the Todd Palin interview, he is so neat. Regardless of politics, they are interesting folks. Snowmachine thing looks reallly dangerous and crashing looks fatal.

The shelters open fast when the power goes out for too long in our area during the winter. About l0 years ago when Chicago lost power after a big storm during the summer we lost about 800 people up here. It was sick. Power was out for like a week and over a hundred degrees. They were using refrigerator trucks as morgues. It was like a science fiction novel.
New emergency plans were written and now shelters open fast. We bought a generator. It would at least run a fridge and a heater/window air unit.

Wonder if that generator still works, should give it a try.

Love them or hate them, I am impressed when any woman can reach the top rung of politics.

You can view it on the internet at Fox news, Greta Van Sustern did the interview. He is just interesting and he supports her, no matter what. And they are still so in love- how many couples can say that after 25 plus years?

Amazes me, they are obviously still very mucha couple. Cute.

Hannity had a funny exchange with someone last night, I turned it off because that girl gave me a headache-I don't need that at bedtime. She was a piece of work, I wanted to pinch her to make her answer the question, which she never did.

I have to bail for a bit. Conference with DD's teacher to discuss mid period progress. I requested it because DD suddenly brought home an 82 on something- 2 weeks in a row, not acceptable, since she has never had a grade like that before. DD actually said the teacher uses the phrase "self guided learning" HELLO, LADY, THEY ARE 3rd GRADERS, no self guiding there, dip.

I had to control my face when DD asked what self guided learning was, good grief.

She now has zero TV privileges. Zero IPOD, and we started intensive schoolwork boot camp last night-she loved it. When we put her to bed she asked, can we do the homework and extra study drills again? You betcha, every night for at least an hour. We will see how fun this is for her after a couple of weeks. self guided learning, ha, in third grade they are lucky to go to the restroom without an escort.
