The Chinese girls definately deserved the gold in gymnastics. Their floor routines were amazing. Our girls seemed to be trying to hard and then made mistakes. I did notice the Chinese girl's routines didn't really go corner to corner. All their passes were in from the corners as to leave room for mistake and still not go out. Ours go corner to corner-no wonder we went out of bounds a few times.

Silver to great!! Better than in the past Olympics. I just can't believe the Romanians were 3rd. They usually kick butt in this sport.

Oh, I love the Olympics. Our girls made silly mistakes and just go too mental about the whole thing. If they would just relax and enjoy the event, they would do better, BUT I do find it horrible and unfair that our girls had to rotate with China, and watch them or be watched-talk about a mental game??? Yikes, that had to be hard.

They did great overall and without our real superstars, just like the guys did-great without the Hamm brothers.

Phelps and crew were so amazing it defies reason. It must be demoralizing to swim with him. Look around and all you see is the last of his kick foam floating in your face. UGH, that has to be hard. He is so amazing that watching him is just a treat. I still yell and scream until he or they win it, but wow.

Wonder if he is going to train for 2012, since he is moving home to Baltimore.

The games have been very entertaining. We've been up late every night pulling for the swimmers. I really don't enjoy events where the judges decides who wins. Many times I think the gymnastics scores are determined by who is performing and what they've done in the past. We had a chance to attend the World Track and Field event many years ago. It gave us a peek as to what it would be like to attend the Olympics, except that we had an unprecedented opportunity to be sitting in the stands with people participating. I don't think that could or would happen now.

Thanks, I finally heard that last night, but his assistant coach from when he started swimming did an interview on Fox this morning and said he will be teaching some swimming classes "in the Baltimore area" while he is there. How cool would it be if your kid got swimming lessons or tips from the great Michael Phelps?

I am from the Baltimore area HE will probably do swimming at his club NBAC (Northern Baltmore Aquatic Center) My friend from high school was actually on his swim team! How cool is that?!?!

A few odd tidbits on Phelps, also from Fox this AM

He is 6'4" but has a "wingspan" of 6'7"
His inseam is 32"

They think this accounts for his tremendous ability since he has less leg drag then other swimmers, and a larger torso helps with floatablity and accounts (partially) for his greater lung capacity. Interesting.

That is very, very cool. I think his mom is a genius. He credits her with getting him into swimming as a way to manage his ADHD and it helped him learn focus so he wouldn't have to take the medicine. That is a smart lady.
