    Wisdom Needed: Mini's which one?

I am going to purchase a Mini Netbook.

I've tried reading the reviews and am seriously more confused than
    before I started researching.

Does anyone have one or successfully researched these? Any wisdom would be appreciated.

My sister in law chose the 9" Dell after all her research and she loves it.

Haunted Gabe, what made you decide on a netbook instead of a laptop? I'm curious because I have looked at them as well.

I have an Asus Eee Pc 1000H. It's really good. It's small enough to carry around and has a long battery life.

We all have our own laptops in my family, we gave up on PC's. DS has an I-Phone and DD has an I-Touch. So we really already have an array here.

With college visits and a kid already there I was looking for something a bit more portable for trips and to schlep to meetings and on vacations.

I'll leave the cute factor out of the official reasons

Just don't know what I'm supposed to be looking for in these mini's.

It depends on what you want to do. If it is just for catching up on e-mail and surfing the web, the Asus would do the trick. If you need to do more the Dell might be a better choice

Haunted Gabe, when I looked at them, I realized I needed computing power as well, so they would not work for me. For wireless connectivity, communication and web browsing, they look like a perfect fit for you... and at a great cost-svaings over a laptop.

Maybe you could make a list of what functions you want it to perform?
I have a laptop for everyday use but I bought the little netbook purely to take on holidays and trips as it fits in my bag.

Re: Wisdom Needed: Mini's which one?

Since I am not savvy with the electronics at all, I asked our computer geek. She says, the mini's get hot rather quickly which can lead to terminal battery failure, so be aware of the (fan?) and overuse, AND KNOW up front how much new battery packs are. Minis are recommended for shorter use periods, and for portability, but laptops have better feature and their charger packs (?again?) last longer and do not get as hot so less risk of a terminal failure.

In english I think that means one needs better cooling and less "straight hours" use and one is designed for longer periods of use with larger feature, but both have battery or charger pack replacement costs associated and so know those up front.

That is what computer gal says, does that help any?

Well I only had it briefly before my DS took it off to college since his took an untimely crash.

The keyboard was easy to type on surprisingly. It has good rubber feet however being so light a dog or a bump could send it sailing easily. I really liked it. I could see the whole screen (width) and print was easy enough to read.

It has little memory but easily cured with a memory stick. There will be no software sharing because you must download anything directly to the mini. I down loaded McAfee directly. It took it nicely. It came with a few basic programs.

Well considering he hasn't had electricity in his apartment since Tuesday afternoon in his apartment, no power, no Internet...I don't think he has used it much.
