They had his mother as one of the last torch bearers and we have a Terry Fox day here that is a pretty big deal, but I'm thinking it's just a Canadian thing? He's definetly a Canadian hero and I'm REALLY glad they had his mom there
I think it's a Canadian thing. I only heard of Terry Fox this morning when I was reading some articles on these games.

Is Apolo Anton Ohno entertaining or what? He makes for a good race!

Luge and skeleton terrified me before the accident, now even more so....they were clocking in at 96 mph....yikes.

Figure skating hasn't even started yet, and there's already issues with the scoring/judging.

Ooooo I can't stand him! It's his hair and soul patch I think. i know it's wrong to judge someone based on their hair haha. But also I'm canadian so I'm not exactly routing for the same people :P
Also... the canadian women won their hockey game 18-0 yesterday... I couldn't watch after the first 10 minutes it was so lopsided :S

Also... go Patrick Chan! So excited for figure skating...

I didn't watch it. I'm planning on watching the medal rounds of the hockey teams. I'm cheering on the USA Women and I could go either USA or Canada for the Men's team. I only watch hockey every four years so...

You know who I am looking forward to....that young South Korean girl I'm hearing so much about! She's the gold medal favorite and I have never seen her skate.

One of our ice dancing teams is from my area, so looking forward to both USA ice dancing teams.

And....my absolute favorite in skating....PAIRS!! Russians (or Soviets) have gotten this gold for decades! I wonder if they'll keep it. Canada has produced some of my favorite pairs teams, so looking forward to seeing you guys!

Can I just say that I'm sickened by the 35 years old that weighs 105 pounds in the women's moguls. Man do I feel overweight and out of shape after watching that.

I have a theory the olympics are watched more by women than men. I love the NFL and MLB but I don't find the olympics (summer and winter) interesting at all.

    Possibly.

I do not find non-Olympic sports interesting at all. I've been to games (professional, college, intramural, high school, middle school, pee wee/little league, etc.) and they don't hold my interest. I was even a part of some of it in school, but still no real interest.

The Olympic games do hold my interest. They always have as far back as I can remember....both Summer and Winter games. I'm not a 100% certain why other than I really like seeing the world "come together" so to speak.

Lori, I bet you would be even more excited if your Mr. Phelps were in these Olympic, too.
Apparently you didn't lobby the IOC hard enough for "ice swimming"...!

Re: XXI Olympic Winter Games Thread (Vancouver 2010)

I think women like the olympics because there is more of a "good feeling" in the competition. The olympics also has a style aspect (opening day ceremonies) that other sports lack. I couldn't care less about what outfit athletes wear but I'll bet women love this.
