Opening ceremony starts at 7:30PM EST on NBC for us Americans.

And, I will be missing most of it due to work. I'm hoping catch snippets here and there and whatever they show on the late night coverage.

Amanda, you really need a Tivo, or a DVR system.

Well...there's a long story involved here and let's just we had one and currently we do not. And 99% of the time I don't care, but for the next 2+ weeks I'm wishing we did.

I wonder what Canada is doing for the opening ceremony? Which cultural aspects of their nation is going to get highlighted? I'm assuming British Columbia, but I don't know much about that area other than Vancouver is used for filming a lot for movies/shoes that are "NYC based." And salmon? Who are the aboriginal peoples in that area? If the American Pacific Northwest has got a wine industry, BC does too...?

So what events are everyone looking forward to watching?

I'm from Canada, and I'm from near Toronto and I've never been to Vancouver (disney world is a LOT closer than vancouver haha) but I have a lot of friends who have been off and working in Vancouver for months now on various things for the games. They KNOW all about the opening ceremonies and won't say a thing! But... in general in BC there's the rocky mountains, and surfing, and fishing... and most of the aboriginal people in Canada lived in British Columbia, they would be pretty similar to the western US states I'm sure. And the weather is pretty mild... they don't get a really cold winter but they also don't get a really hot summer. The mountains are where all the skiing, snowboarding, etc happens. Oh and whales and bears... there are lots of those.
