I have completed one hugely important PowerPoint and about to finish the second. It is difficult to decide what to put on them when this is background information that is mandatory but it won't be something a single person will teach. So there has to be enough information given for someone with no knowledge can know about it.

Hooray!!!! You got a chunk done. The middle part sounds like "fluff"-no real point to it, but it has to be there anyway-Maybe, just maybe, that will be the part that helps someone. Good job on getting it done.

Just discovered that "the chosen one" didn't do what she said she would do for one of our courses and I now have two days to fix it. Right...... She had two years to develop something. Thanks.

Hate that for you. Hate it when a "chosen one" falls flat and the bright one has to pick up all of the slack. ERRR. I will be ticked for you on that one. ER.

Content area reading. Hmmmm, that is a phrase I've yet to have thrown at me. I get the content and duh reading but content area reading?
Give it up, what the h*ll does that mean?

Is there now geographic educational buzz words and phrases?

I have no clue and now I feel completely ignorant. Gae is apparently a LOT smarter then me. I am totally good with that.

While I was strolling through the Mall I noticed a special sign out front of the Disney Store that it would open at Midnight the Friday after Thanksgiving.

Heard a CM talking to a shopper, shopper found ridiculous to open the store at that hour. CM, we were told the guests demanded it.

Wow! I can't picture myself walking into the Disney Store and demanding that they open at Midnight and anyone caring.

Yeah, not so much. Disney Stores CEO probably doesn't want to lose those sales. However, shoplifting is a huge, huge problem around here on black Fridays, can't imagine a crush of folks there. ugh.

Content Area Reading- reading required in all courses. Think of it as "what reading is required in this class (any class) in order for me to learn what this is all about" Another catch phrase that is the same yet different id Disciplinary Reading- specifically what reading and writing is necessary in this course and what skills do I need to be successful.

Core content areas are English, Math, Science, Social Studies/History. But all courses have some form of reading and writing. So how can you help students be successful in that particular area.

That actually makes sense. See, you ARE really good at what you do, cause you were able to translate that from collegiate speak to regular English.

I took care of step one. Now to figure out how to "teach" it to people who won't have a book, won't be taught by direct instruction unless we figure something out, and don't think it is part of their job. Anyone really excited to take that one on?

Uh, sure, break out a job description-find one that has that clause "And other duties as assigned or required" and tell them ALL of it is their job. Other then that, I have no way to be helpful. But it sounds like you are doing a great job.

I think I have earned the right to go to sleep! Got a lot accomplished today.

Permission granted. If I had a wand I would wave it.

I ate a block of cheese (cheddar) last night, it was delicious.
