Re: The RT Thread Part V

    Does anyone have an e-reader?

Which one do you have? Pros? Cons? I've been thinking of getting one mainly because the Kindle Fire caught my attention back in December. But, there's also B&N's Nook. I have an app on my phone where I can read books, but my phone screen is smallish for that purpose.

How easy is it to get new and old books? What about the cost? Comparable to purchasing paperback or hardback? Do any of these have a back up method....like external hard drive or something like Cloud?

We have 3 Kindles including the Fire. We also got my Mom the latest wireless Kindle for Christmas as she has Macular degeneration. Since we have 4 different versions, I believe and have no problems with any, I vote for the Kindle.

My DD got the Fire because her previous one did not have number pages.
With numbered pages she can download her college textbooks.

Another thing to research with the Nook is that Barnes was considering selling off their Nook division. Why? Got me, that is the future of bookstores. Oy. Think they would have learned from Borders.

And on the Kindle Fire...just don't think it will replace something like an IPad. It does work and great when nothing else is available but it is funky.

And with any Kindle the cover you pick is real important. From the various styles we have here the ones online are much nicer than the ones in the stores. Buy one with a built in light, perfect for travel or reading in bed.
The one we got for my Mom was $60, pricey but well worth the investment. It is so easy to turn the pages on the Kindle when you try and read holding the Kindle without its book cover, balancing it with your fingers on the back and thumbs up front.

Since Christmas my Mom's Kindle payed for itself. I just downloaded 6 books for her last week, James Patterson, it was $85.00. Much cheaper than the books she bought each month.

The Kindle does come with a cord that charges it to your laptop. I bought my Mom a Wall charger from Target, simpler and more portable for her. Target it was $20.

Busy weekend. On friday I went over to my grandmas house to watch movies with my great grandpa. Saturday I went to the mall and a family friends house and today I did nothing much but later going to grandma to watch the game.

I don't but DD really wants one, so I'm with you-I'll take all the input I can get before i buy one.
