I was raised Catholic and still don't understand half of the traditions. The past few years I have experimented with a few non-denominational Christian churches that I really like. So much more modern and enjoyable....I don't walk out of there wondering what the heck the message they were trying to send to me was.

I use to wonder what the message was but then my church started a teen mass and know I get a little more them before.

I was raised baptist, and now I am a devout non denominational. Rhema churches are my preference. I have been a member of a Rhema church for 11 years now and I love it. Our pastor always reads the scripture from the New King James and from the Message Bible-so it is VERY easy to understand. And it is always a message relevant to today.

no, but I am irritated that all of my suppliers in NOLA shut down for Mardi Gras. ALL of them, shut down for the day. One of them told me that even Walmart in NOLA closes for Mardi Gras.

My parents have both had stolen cars. Mom walked out of work one day to find hers gone, and once on vacation while in WDW, dad received a call that his had been taken. Not the best way to start a vacation and scary that someone knew that we weren't home.

A reason I don't stop the mail and try not to take a taxi to the airportt.

I wonder if how Alcatraz shows what it was like there is close to being true. It seems like they had a lot of freedom. Like right now they are in the "chapel" watching a movie.

Not a catholic, and I sure do not understand the whole thing. When I was in high school and worked at long john solvers-Friday and Saturday during Lent were a slammer. Everyone gave up meat for one of those days-I still don't understand that. Fish, is meat.

Of course you don't, you remember it after a Nun pounds it into your head.

It is part of fasting until Easter from Ash Wednesday. According to teachings, Christ fasted for 40 days (amount of days between Ash Wed. and Easter) prior to going into Public ministry. The fasting rules loosened over the century. Originally it was just bread at most, some places not even that. More modern times made them realize passing out people, not so good. Rules then went to include fish. Fish is how Christ fed the poor in the Bible. It was cheap and plentiful food in Biblical times. Wealthy folks Celebrated with food in Biblical times were tied to Goats, Lambs and cattle. Poor did not own land so they could not even hunt as the land belong to the Wealthy. Poor only received waste products that wealthy would not eat of warm blooded animals. The poor people ate fish. So in the Catholic mind, Christ fed the hungry Fish, so if Catholics were to "give up" food it would be the mammal meat and only eat fish.
Basically walking in Christs shoes fasting during the lenten season.

And that concludes this session of Catholics as literacy course for today. And in no way meant to be offering up religion, just an explanation of the fish.
