Computer problems

Hi everyone,

I just wanted to let you all know that I'm having some major computer problems at home. = Right now I'm at work, so luckily I can get on and post a little. We've been having severe thunderstoamrs in our area this week and I think a bad one may have knocked my computer out Wednesday. I don't know if it was lightning or what. All I know is that when I got home from work Wednesday night my computer was off. So, I asked my fiance if she had shut it down and she told me she had because it was so stormy outside, and after trying to turn it back on, it wouldn't work. I haven't gotten a chance to mess with it a whole lot because of all we have going on, but if it's fried I'm going to be very upset.

Has anyone here had any computer problems like this? And if so, can you fix it? I just wanted to give you all a heads up in case I'm not able to post as much as usual. I hope I can work things out because I have a lot on my PC that i haven't backed up, which opens a whole new can of worms... Please post any suggestions or advice. Thanks guys and gals!

Hi Pumpkin!! Sorry to hear you're having computer problems. Have you heard of Geek Squad: http://www.geeksquad.com/main.asp . I have heard from several people that they are great and really do help out with all sorts of computer problems. While they have their own stores, you can also find them at most Best Buys (they have their own work area within the store) and Geek Squad does house calls, meaning they'll come to your place to check out the computer. I've seen the prices and to me they look pretty descent. If you check out their site, on the left hand side there will be a series of options...click on "what we do". That will bring up a menu where you can find the option of "capabilities and pricing". Clicking on that you can look at the different options you have such as 1) phone services 2) best buy store services 3) geek squad store services 4) in home services. All these options will include prices!!

Well luckily I'm at work again (yes, on a Saturday ) so I can post a few quick messages... When I turn the modem on it makes the noise like it's starting up (motors running inside, etc), but the monitor continues to say something about it not being connected. I've unhooked the cable from the monitor to the modem, but it hasn't made a difference. Also, the keyboard and mouse will not do anything. I've also unhooked them and plugged them abck in a few times.

Thanks for the useful info and link. I've heard of the Geek Squad myself too, but have never used them or known anyone who has. If worse comes to worse, I'll give them a call and see if they can come out and work on my PC. Because I'm moving next weekend I'm not in too terrible of a hurry to fix the stupid thing, but then again I am. I've got too much on it to be without out.
