Tiny little digitals, my first Cannon camera huge and heavy and had to attach a flash adapter, then my digital camera, now a phone/camera.

My first cell phone was the size of a brick.

I have one of the old crank video recorders that used 35 or 8 mm film or somethin like that. Didn't require batteries, now that was a concept.

Yes! And It was the only way to get cell service out where we lived- in the middle of no where! Ended up giving it to a friend who goes to South Dakota frequently. Because those antennas work up there.

Back to work tomorrow. And I will have to teach a class- have a student who doesn't want directed study. The pain. She and one other may be the only ones in the class. But then again, I will have only three in my afternoon class. Going to be a long session.

It's your classroom. You're the teacher. If they persist maybe you should hand out dunce hats.

I have three students who must take this class independently. They will have to come one of the last two days to present or send a video of their presentation (or narrate a powerpoint).

    Re: Thoughts of Randomness VI

Just saw a news report of a child who is graduating high school at age 16. I have mixed feelings about this. I am glad that the young man can do the school work but is this person ready for the real world? Are they ready for the changes that are ahead if they go off to college? Do they have the maturity to handle a full time job?

I also have the same issues with students who take a lot of dual credit. For example, a student here can take almost a full year of college in high school (in some cases can earn an associates degree with their high school degree) but that does not mean that they are prepared for college or a work setting. In the case of teachers, they have the opportunity to graduate at age 20. Do you want a 20 year old teaching a bunch of 17 year olds? I have only seen one student in my years of higher ed where they are mature enough to handle thinking like a teacher instead of a student at that age.

Just because someone wants someone to be ready and prepared doesn't mean they are READY to handle things. I think about wanting kindergarteners to be able to read. Some are ready and many are not. Can't force them- but can do your best to make them have the skills they will need. But if they aren't ready- they just aren't ready.

    Jumping off my soapbox now.

The dry lasagne noodles. I found the recipe on big oven.com

I made a sausage hotpot in the slow cooker last night. Yum yum yum!

We have a friend's kid's 2nd birthday party this Saturday. I'm going to make some chocolate cupcakes, or rocky road. Maybe both.
