Don't get me started on the Florida school system. They haven't taught spelling for 4 years and now its part of FCAT Test Scoring, well how can the make up in less than one year what they haven't been taught the past 4 years and all these years when I complained they said they didn't want to discourage kids from writing. and when I would try to enforce spelling at home it was a battle because my son said he was told all he has to know is how to sound it out.

A few years back ISats in IL stopped testing for writing. So of course they didn't teach to it. Then without warning it was added back to ISats and golly gee the students couldn't write. Our kids were taught that too, writing without spelling, fortunately my kids had a first grade teacher that taught to the curriculum and also taught phonics out of the boundaries of the curriculum. She was mastered out of John Hopkins, she knew her stuff. I was taught in the era of whole learning, I can't spell worth a darn, if you are not taught phonics it is a bite to spell let alone use a dictionary.

Packing for our weekend away! The weather looks awful, thankfully none of our plans involve us being outside. Super excited to spend time with the family! DH should be home in a couple of hours so we can head out before rush hour.
