I was born on Oct. 20th '62, right smack in the middle of the Cuban Missile Crisis (mom and pop thinkin' "We've got a child due in a few days, and we don't even know if there'll be a world left to bring it into."), so I grew up during the '60s and '70s. What a time! We played outside ALL the time and invented many of our own games. We'd disappear into the foothills on our bikes on a summer mornin' with just enough lawn mowin' money in our pockets to get a burrito or a burger, although we usually chose candy instead , or somethin', and not return 'til after dark. Mom knew we'd be back as soon as our tumblies were thoroughly Rumbly.
So many other memories! Like I said, what a time...!
And I had no idea what a burrito was.

I find people of a certain age just loose their filters and actually say out loud what pops into their heads. Younger they might have thought it, without expressing it.

    My Grandparents were from Ireland.

I was given a Dr. Spook book, still good till this day.

Clock radio with flip numbers. My DH still had his when we got married.

    So good!

    Alrighty Gabe...
    • I love the retro logo and freaked when they had it back on for a bit a couple of months ago.
    • Girl Scout Camping Days where the best and we did not have that thing...we legit cooked over the fire....got burned a bit but dealt with it.
    • My street did the same thing. We use to play from like 9am to like 10pm and my street did not have street lamps so we played flashlight tag or just used the lights from the house. Now there are never kids out.
    • My mommy has a Dr.Spook book
    • I really really want a flip number clock. I think they are so cool
    • Charms are the best. There is this huge candy store in Cleveland that sells candy from back in the day and I buy like two pounds of them when I am there.

How many kids will know what this is?

    Round Two
    • Those Popsicle are the best. I have like 3 a day now. Back in band we always had a whole deep freeze filled with them and ate them all the time... they were like our drug.
    • Is it sad that when ever I have a balloon I still play that game
    • I love film bottles.... they smell so good.

I had something similar to this, I didn't play with it, I had cowboy guns and machine guns. Boy Cousins next door.

My Sis had this one. She has a maid as a grown-up. No cooking or laundry for her.

    Round Three
I have the pyrex and the dish set at my grandmas (or ones really really similar()... My mom had them when she was a little girl and her mom kept them and passed them down to me when I was old enough to play with it.

We have those still. I love them except ours get super duper hot and when ever my grandma is over she freaks that we are going to burn our house down.

Yesterday was my grad party. It was nice I guess. The family part was good and I could not ask for anything better but the part with the friends was horrible. But whatever I guess

Well happy that most of the grad party was fun. Time for the rest of the guests to move onto college and put high school behind.

My LL game was rained out, and it seems like STL and the Cubs are getting the same kind of rain.

But, you're so right. Just a completely different way of life back then. Even if it is subjective as to whether it was better or worse.

I'll stick with "different" and call it a day.
As far as "old guys" 'round here goes, I believe Brian (hi Brian! ) has that title when it comes to regulars.
Jiminy Cricket has it when it comes to semi-regulars.

Different, for the most part, works for me. But there are still some things I will never be convinced are better now than during my childhood.
I spent the first 4 years of my life in San Antonio, Texas, then Huntsville, Alabama for 18 mos., then to San Jose, California from '68-'76, and then back to Austin, Texas. Northern Cali. was the craziest, as you can imagine.
Haight-Ashbury, the Manson family, the Zodiac Killer. I didn't even really realize 'til years later what a crazy time it was. Guess I was too busy bein' a kid.
    Thanks, mom and pop!

I always like to look on the optimistic side of life, but I am realistic enough to know that life is a complex matter.

The Wave is the best modern example of why the 2nd amendment should be kept, along with justifiable homicide defenses.
