Awe don't loose heart, you have a goal. I have knee issues that crop up here and there still (Me verses goat on a ski slope), try and work on upper body stuff when leg is acting up.

Giggle. Just heard the funniest editorial on the News. I hope I can find the text version of it tomorrow or a YouTube. Priceless.

The school says they've been teaching spelling the past several years to my son. Not true.

Our students have a spelling workbook, it is done at home exclusively. After 14 straight years of spelling books coming home I genuinely learned to hate that approach. Time consuming busy work. Frankly by 5th grade I wish they would shift to vocabulary.

I don't care how they do it, I just resent I the last two years we were told they don't really teach spelling its voluntary, then they want to tell me they have been when I know they haven't.

They need to teach it somehow.

Heck, they haven't even taught them times tables. I knew those in third grade.

So, I'm left to get this done before next year because obviously they aren't going to do it.

My parents taught me how to read and spell, before I started school. That's what I hope to do with my future kids.

What grade is your son in? I believe multiplication came in 3rd grade and division the next and adding in long division and multiplication problems starting later in 4th grade. Whew, so glad past that. We did a lot of flash cards at home.

There are also some real good math computer programs that are fun and effective for learning tables.

Spelling harder to teach solo, there are very different approaches out their for that. I am a big fan of phonics. It is a process that seems to stick.

Yeah, the more they learn before the better. Good for you.

I've told the story before, my DD could read little kid chapter books at 4 years old. I didn't understand how she taught herself to read and all she could say when I discovered she could fluently read was looking at me strangely and saying everyone knows how to read. It was
    very unnerving.

What age do kids start school in Australia?

It's meeting day! But DD is coming home for the weekend.

And I need to check my paycheck. I was supposed to get a pay raise.

Between the ages of 4-6. All depends on the state and/or the child. I started when I was 5.

I did, even though it was 60 in TX.
