The definition of Marmelite - from a US citizen who lived in England and Australia - is a beef extract sauce that is spread on bread much like the rest of us use peanut butter. It looks (dark brown) and smells disgusting, however a lot of American kids, including my own DD, do develope a taste for it while living in England or Australia.
