Do you mean the subtitles don't match when the dialogue is in French or English? Because if its in English, that's proabably because you can't directly translate a lot of things, because it sounds wierd, or theres certain idioms that make sense in English and not in French or vise versa.

A little mixed up. Sometimes what they are saying in French does not match the French subtitles. It's kind of strange. Je vais nager! ("m going swimming) Je vay naja...sort-of

This is true. Same deal with my experience in Spanish captioning versus Spanish dubbing (way I see it, I'm just learning two different ways to express the same idea--one of those little things that separates great linguists from the so-so ones).

And no; idioms won't (or at least shouldn't) appear literally.

Wait. What does je vay naja mean? I figure that it means "Im going swimming" but I never learned how to say it that way. I only know je vais nager, which is translated exactly as "I'm going to swim"....What verb is "vay"?? Is it another form of vais (cant remember the invinitive of that..)

It's pronunciation-reading a different language out loud is hard, esp. if you don't know how it is supposed to sound, so we try to give a boost on that!

    The verb would be "aller".

    je vais
    tu vas
    il va
    nous allons
    vous allez
    ils vont

Ohh okay. Thanks. I was getting confused, cause I didn't realize that it was the pronunciation, even though I shouldve figured it out, since I know how to pronounce je vais nager.
And yeah, reading another language is confusing. It's so wierd in French because the last letter is silent, and so is 'h'.
